Sorry it's got dust on it .... :p

Here's what looks like the Sako brake (don't see the screw for the mirage band that would be on a Tikka brake):

I haven't fired my .223 with the brake yet, so I don't know how it will do. The idea is to reduce muzzle jump so I can see the hits on the varmints.

One thing I wonder about is the diameter of the bore - on the Near its about 0.38 inches, looks like this thing would work on a .338 Lapua too.

I have both. The Near is a better design. Richard Nears customer service is top notch

First the NEAR is asymetrical ...theory behind it is it pulls the stock slightly away from you. Noticable difference over the SAKO OEM on a 338 Lapua .

The Sako directs more of the blast downward ( see pic ) . Kicks up more dirt when lying prone

BTW both are clearanced for the 338 Lapua but work fine on the 308Win

Hard to tell which would be better recoil reduction with a 308 Win . I only tried it once on my 308 . I leave it on my 338LM

Machine work on the Near is far better

I got mine off the EE, during the process I contacted Near a couple weeks ago and they're currently out of stock. It doesn't show on their web page, send him an email or phone to check. It's going to be around $200.

I apologize for the hijack, but on the subject, anyone use the Vais Muzzlebrakes? They told me they ship to Canada, no big deal. How are they?

If you can't do a good enough job kicking up dust with your mucklucks, try a vase brake. You'd think you just pulled the trigger on a black powder gun unless you're always shooting off a bench. Recoil wise, on some of the bigger calibers; 338LM or 50cal, I'd want something with a angled back slant with the heavier bullets to pull the gun away from the shooter more.

I have the NEAR on my .338 and it feel like a .308, way much les blast on the ground

tikka

I have the tikka tactical witht he sako/tikka manufactured brake. it is like shooting my 243. I will be purchasing the near brake from tse this weekend and then will let u know which i like better.

The Near brake is awesome, I also have it on a TRG 42 in .338 Lapua. One word of advice, when you install it make sure it is 100% plumb or you'll go home after a day at the range looking like you went 8 rounds with Mike Tyson, trust me!

P.S. Richard is a great guy to deal with.
