I was reading on Varmint Al's website, and he shows a small muzzle break which he made for one of his rimfires which clamps onto the barrel rather than screw. Is this possible to do for larger calibers? or should it stay in the realm of rimfire?

Thanks.

This could be done, but you have to incorporate a heavy duty clamping system. Like counter bore the brake to go over the barrel by about 1-1/2” and then slot this part of the brake and install two socket head cap screws at 90° to clamp the brake to the barrel. The thing would look rather bulky.

Ok, I was just wondering. I was looking for a new project on the lathe.

A lathe is used to thread the barrel, it can also be used to thread the brake... there are two projects....:D
