Try gluing(epoxy) a jacketed bullet to a suitably sized(1/4") brass rod for a field expedient bullet test guage. Won't be perfect nor terribly accurate, but it'll be close. Mind you, it's unlikely that any commercial rifle will have much muzzle wear, if any.
