I've been out bow hunting and a buddy of mine says "you should ditch the bow and get a Muzzleloader, its the same season" I say it's not. I'm in southern Ontario in the Durham region. Is the muzzleloading season one week in Dec. as a controlled hunt? or is he right?

you are both correct.it all depends on where you are hunting

Depends on what WMU you hunt, but from a quick look at the regs, 82A&B, 83A&B and 84 allow the use of muzzleloaders Dec 1 to Dec 6 and 82B had an additional muzzleloader week of Nov 17 to 22. Other than that, its bows only until December 31.

Thats what he thinks. I told him, he's on glue and he needs some one to read him the regs.
In SW Ontario, you'll never have a "gun" season (Rifle, Muzzle-loader, or otherwise), correspond or overlap with a bow season in the same WMU.
As bowhunters are not required to wear hunter orange, (in stand) and rifle, M/L hunters are..........well, you see the potential conflict in the eye's of the MNR.

Guys ^^...check the Ont regs. You CAN bow hunt during BP, or shotgun only weeks. You just have to wear orange.
This has been discussed to death, and people still get it wrong. :runaway:

X2 for Beefman. You can bow hunt during any open deer season but you must meet the hunter orange requirements during any concurrent gun season, whether that gun season is shotgun only, black powder, or rifle.

What about the controlled hunt in WMU 69A? I thought the regs specifically say the bow season shuts down during this hunt.

he's talking about the open muzzleloader season from dec 01-07. and you can hunt with bow during any open season as long as you have the appropriate amount of orange (whether shotgun/muzzleloader or muzzleloader). different rules during controlled hunts. if i'm wrong please correct me.

Well...there might be exceptions. WMU 69A2 looks like it might be one of them. But its as clear as mud. I guess because its a hunt with controlled numbers though.

When in doubt, double check all the regs., if any doubt exists call your MNR office. :)

If it a controlled hunt for shotguns no bow hunting, the M loader controlled hunt in some areas you can hunt with a bow but you have to put in for the controlled hunt to get a permit to bow hunt.
