Got a chance to get out yesterday morning and managed to get it done.
I watched a winter wheat field for the first hour as there were a few fresh scrapes along the field edge, nothing showed so decided to go sit in one of my tree stands in the bush. Sat in the stand for 1.5 hrs rattling and grunting without any luck so decided to take a walk in the bush as I had a good wind. I took my time and covered maybe 100 yds in about 30 minutes. I was doing more watching and listening than actually moving... Move a few yards, wait a couple minutes, move a few more yards, repeat......
As I was waiting and watching I hear a large snap and something big coming through the bush. I pulled my hammer back on my muzzleloader and wait. I see the deer coming toward me and at the 20 yard mark he stopped behind some brush. Not sure if he saw me but after standing there for a minute he turned to go back from where he came. I let out a BA sound as he reached an opening causing him to stop. At the shot and after the smoke cleared, I see him on the ground with his tail twitching. I hit his spine
