Hi everyone,
Has anyone asked the question if one can use the 209 muzzleloader primers in place of 12 gauge 209 primers, and the other way around shotgun in muzzleloader? Since there is such a shortage.
I’m not sure if the primers are the same or not. Just checking for someone’s knowledge in this area.
Thanks..

To clarify, I'm wanting to reload shotgun, and can't find 209 shotgun primers. Just wondering if I could use muzzleloader primers.

Again, thanks for all the input.

If you do a bit of internet searching you will find that shotgun primers are substantially hotter then muzzleloader primers. I use shotgun primers in my muzzleloader in cold weather. I would not use muzzleloader primers in a shotgun.

When I used to have a Thompson Center muzzle loader, I used Buckhorn 209 powder, because it was all I could get, at that time. I believe right on the can was a warning not to use muzzle loader primers with that stuff - wanted shotgun 209 primers only.
