Muzzleloader Reclasification?

A couple of the old boys around the table at the hunting camp said that they heard that the feds might be reclassifing muzzleloaders as rifles. If this is the case it will eliminate the week of muzzleloader season in my WMU, as we aren't able to use rifles for deer here. I wasn't too worried because it wasn't the only tall tale I heard all week. But the longer I think about it seems like something dumb the big boys might try to do. Anyone else have any more information for me?
Thanks Fellas.
Reclassifying? There is only one class...and that is non-restricted. Unless it is a flint-lock then it is an antique.

It has nothing to do with the muzzleloader season in Ontario.

MNR makes the classification on what type of firearms are allowed.

All of the anti-inline guys can stick a sock in it...bunch of whiners.

I have always used a ML during our shotgun only deer hunt...way before ML were cool.

I own all three kinds of ML...flint, perc., and inline and use them interchangeably.

Well said....

The whiners are concerned the new style long range inlines will be the end of the few muzzle loader seasons we now have, because of the safety factor in populated areas.
When we see ML's shooting greater distances than the 30-30 it is just a matter of time before our seasons are shut down.
Guns like the bad Bull are the beginning of the end. Compare the ballistics of the bad Bull to a modern cartridge.

I have Flinters, Percussion caps and an inline that I will only use in the general season with the other center fires..

Of course you are talking about hunting I believe that is different, but an antique does not have to be a flintlock.

@ petew:

Thanks for the link.

Six thousand and eighty foot-pounds at the Muzzle??????????

You only get 2300 from a .303!

OBVIOUSLY this one deserves to be in the "Primitive Weapons" hunting season.

Wouldn't dare ask it to compete against all those high-rate-of-fire Sniders and Rolling Blocks out there......

Unfortunately interest in traditional muzzleloading is waning with fewer young people getting into it.The big difference between the traditionalists and the inline guys is most people using inlines are just looking to extend their hunting where as the traditional camp it is more of a sense of history , reliving the past and putting a self imposed limit on one self with no scopes or any of the other advantages of modern guns.Today a lot of shooters could care less about history or anything else and for us traditionalists putting a sock in it, there wouldn t be primitive seasons without us,we were the ones who fought to get the the primitive seasons so maybe we should be thanked instead of being called a bunch of whiners.

The worst part is they just take away the ML season altogether when they could just put in rules like sidelock only, full bore lead or patched round ball or open sights only.

I do have an inline, and I do use it. My hunting style lends itself to reverting back to cap and ball if the day comes. If I had to shoot past 75yrds I would consider myself having an advantage over my 30-30!
