Muzzleloader regulations in SK

Do you think restrictions will be placed on muzzleloader hunting in SK? I'm not sure what the regulations are like in other places in Canada but here it's "anything goes" for inlines, scopes, etc.... I was chatting with a store owner who's BIG into traditional hunting and he mentioned that inlines will eventually be banned...I wasn't sure if that was wishful thinking on his part or if he knows something I don't. :confused:

Just curious if someone knows of changes that may or will be made. Thanks! :)

Talk is cheap my friend. ;) Buy your modern in-line and go shoot some deer :D
Ive talked with CO's about this and they say the kills are cleaner and less animals are wounded when you scope a rifle.
 
Yeah, I already bought my inline a few weeks ago and took it out for the first time today....man, the range is starting to get busy. One guy out there had 2 rifles, two boxes of shells and he went home without either being sighted in properly. :D He was determined though...kept on going even with blood streaming from between his eyes!

I had a great time shooting a ML for the first time but I think I'm going to scope it. I'm also going to change from 300gr bullets to 250's. It would be a shame to get it set up "just right" and then have the regs change.

I'm pretty excited this fall. It's my first ML season, and I'm getting my rig all ready. It's a TC omega z5 with see-thru weaver rings with a Leupold rifleman on top. I like the fibre-optic sights so much, I still wanted to use them, so the see-thrus were a perfect match. I use the 250 grn XTP's for sighting and plinking, but I'll probably stick with the 'dead-centers' from prbullet. I also like the 25 acp conversion on the z5. Easier to handle, cleaner, and better accuracy.
As far as the old guy predicting change, blame it on the full moon a few nights ago. No changes, and happy shooting

An Austin & Halleck 420. Today I was using 2 Triple 7 pellets behind 300gr XTP's but I'm thinking of trying 250gr Barnes Spitfires or TMZ's.
 
I wouldn't worry about Saskatchewan outlawing inlines. Rumors like that went around 20 years ago, and will still be around 20 years from now. I did wonder what would happen when Savage brought out that smokeless muzzleloader, but nothing came of that either.
With the amount of inlines owned in Saskatchewan, the out-cry would be too great if they were disallowed. Besides there is no reason to do it anyway. SERM is more concerned with selling enough tags to make their payroll to worry about the shape of your muzzleloader. The buckskin crowd may wish otherwise, but inlines are here to stay.

I think if they allow in-lines they should allow BPCR rifles as they at least are authentic to an earlier time when shooting and hunting were a relaxing pastime, not a race to see who can cheat with an inline,scope sighted, sabot firing, plastic stocked, primitive weapon!
 
You can use your black powder rifle, in the rifle season. Being authentic to earlier time doesn't make it a muzzleloader. A scope or plastic stock doesn't change that a muzzleloader still has to be loaded with a stick. A BPCR doesn't.
On the other hand, if you lobby and get a special season opened for BPCR I'll hunt that season too.
 
Dogleg: You are absolutely correct...my point was that using a muzzleloader is a fun, relaxing, time honored, pastime, and should be a relaxing hunting experience like our forefathers enjoyed...now new shooters will never know the enjoyment of the sport as they get caught up in this race to modernize muzzleloaders!!
 
Manitoba is much the same, in letting people use just about anything that loads from the muzzle. I peronally don't like the modern inline rifle, but 90% of the people hunting in our muzzleloader season use them. To each his own.

What a load of crap. My modern muzzleloader is alot of fun , relaxing and it is being used in a time honored sport called "hunting"
Same could be said about bowhunting. Shooting a modern bow should be outlawed and replaced solely with recurves or longbows. Where does it end??
Tradiotional ML hunters get to hunt and should'nt worry what another guy wants to shoot, be it a modern in-line or flint lock. Ever hear the expression "freedom of choice", its nice to have.

I haven't heard about any MZL changes yet. I hunt with a trout cop sometimes and he told me that the color dress code is changing soon. He said that next year it will only be a coat and hat, not the full outer suit. Sunday hunting is coming up at the SWF for a vote again. I sure hope this outdated, archaic law is changed for us working folks and school aged hunters.

Yeah, I hope the Mon-Fri/Mon-Sat crowd can get Sunday hunting. It would help a lot of people out. The coat and hat would be a good move as well...my jump suit is getting a little tighter every year. ;)

Thanks for the info on ML regs everyone. That'll set my mind at ease.
 
A side of some incremental improvments in sights and components my in-line it's go the same parts that my tc renegade had. Heck if you belive knight the in-line is about as old as the side lock it was just that the side lock was easier to produce at the time so it won.

As for authenticity all those anti-inline folks beter be shooting flint locks because the percussion cap was hardly a blip in the time line compared to the flintlock and even the cartridge.

Do you also think we should all hunt with iron sights because scopes are cheating? Is camo and scent masking cheating too? I fail to see any logic in your statement, as most people would see it as progress.
