Going to purchased a scope as a gift for someone with an inline muzzle loader .50 cal.

What is being used, what is standing up???

Eye relief would be main concern of the optic.

I have a Leupold Muzzleloader 3X9 (Saber reticle I believe it's called) on my TC Prohunter. With the right load of Blackhorn Powder (72 g by weight for me) and a 250g SST the ballistic reticle works out nicely. I've been happy with it and the price was reasonable. Under $300 if I recall but that was a couple years ago.

Weaver, Redfield, Bushnell all have well made scopes on offer. I don't see any need for a variable power scope on a muzzleloader, but I know most people can't imagine ever being able to hit anything at any magnification if there aren't some other settings for magnification not being used.

Been using the Nikon Omega for the last 5yrs on my TC Pro-Hunter. I especially like the
5" constant eye relief, works well with magnum loads.
I looked at the Leupold w/SABR reticle but read reviews about glass and clarity etc.
I found the Nikon to be every bit as clear/bright in low light conditons.
Whats your budget?
