my 10/22 project

Just thought i would share my project that i just finished, i'm excited about it and there is no one else in my house that cares so here you go. I started out with the idea by seeing a few others on here and thought why not. I called a few places to see if they could build me a stock, all of them said yeah sure just send me $500 so it quickly became apparent that if i wanted it done i'd have to do it myself ( so it took me awhile to catch on, no big deal ) I did this for $55 US, that was for the sights the wood was free from my scrap heap.

Hey that is a real beauty! I recgonize a fewof the pieces but please do give details of the rear sight etc. Nice to see a 10/22 rework that does'nt put alot of stress on the barrel/reciever fit.
 
just the tech sights

The sights are just those tech sights that you can get down south, and your right the front bayo lug is the p14/m17 and the middle band is the no4 band. the nice thing about using the bigger rifle parts is that the barrel is still free floating.

Its quite classy.

It makes me want to go "Band of Brothers" on an advancing hoard of gophers!

Any chance you could post a few more pictures showing how you bedded the action into the stock and a shot from the top looking down at the receiver? Also, one looking up from the bottom showing the trigger assembly and mag insert?


Too bad I am all thumbs when it comes to working with wood, otherwise that looks like a awsome project to try.
 
Guys it was an easy project it was more sanding than anything else. I should start off by saying that by looking back at my original thread i never mentioned that i did not carve a complete stock and for that i appologize if i mislead anyone into thinking i did it all. All that was done was that i took an original hardwood stock, cut it back to where i put the middle band, cut a new piece of western maple for the for end and upper handguard, doweled and glued the forearm on and sanded the hell out of it to the shape that i wanted. I used whatever bands that i had lying around which just happened to be the p14/m17 front band and a enfield no4 mk1 middle band. I put the TSR100 sights that i bought from tech sights and the steel buttplate that i had lying around. The Western maple that i used matched up pretty good before i stained it so when i applied the Old Masters red mahogany gel stain it made the pieces match up even more. Hey, i'm all thumbs too so when everyone that shoots it tells me that they absoluteley love it, it makes me feel good.
 
I think the simplicity, scale and lines of the stock and rifle just happen to work really, really. Does'nt even have to be about some great feat of craftsmanship or 1/1000th technical skill. You definelty made a nice little rifle.
Hopefully it will inspire someone to mod thier 10/22 with a little elbow grease and imagination instead of with over priced imported aftermarket stuff that is so popular.

Good job! :D Sweet looking rig, I'm sure it will turn some heads at the range.
