My 1200 round review of my Raven9 PCC

So one of our club PCC shooters has had 5 pin breakages...
No other firing pins will fit, it's proprietary. Kept him out of nationals because he can't rely on it running.
He had a machinist make him two stainless pins. They broke as well.
Another club member hand made him out of hardened steel and I was squaded with him yesterday and it ran flawlessly...
Is it bad that every stage I was saying "break" under my breath? Lol

Just crossed 2K rounds and gun continues to run flawlessly. No further issue with pins. Lockhart rep told me a new batch of pins were forthcoming back when the third pin broke. I would assume new pins are now available. He suggested it was a tempering issue with the first pins. I may call them and ask, although the pin I have now has lasted a bit longer than the former three. Touch wood! I have been using my FX9 in Competition and practice using the 10" barrel upper.
Trying to decide whether or not to install a 10" barrel on my Lockhart. I could go with a 16" in order to comply with US laws but don't see much of advantage to do so over retaining the 18.5" factory barrel. Definitely a 1sr World Problem. ACD help me out here.

If you can find a 12.5" AR9 barrel for the raven that's what I would go with. With the comp you are 14.5 which is the sweet spot for blowback 9's. It's the balance point where you get the most benefit from your comp without losing much accuracy outside of 50yrds...
Just my 2 cents

P.S
I'm trying to convince a CGN sponsor company into making 10" and 12.5" length barrels for the FX9 's. Will keep you posted

ACD I have a 11" Faxon barrel, surplus to a friend I could use. Price would be right. Thoughts?

Yeah man, that'd do. 11" with a 2" ish comp...that's 13-13.5"
Would be a perfect length for a 10" handguard. May I suggest looking at the Toni Systems ones, I put one on my FX9 and LOVE it. Order it direct from Toni Systems, it's cheaper and they ship direct from Italy

ADC I'm going to be the coolest Marksman PCC shooter IN IDPA also the most inept but I'll look cool.
For fall I'll wear.my Ruger hat, S&W hoodie, over my ALBERTA STRONG T- shirt, blue Cargo Pants, and Columbia walking shoes. Add the Raven9 with a 11",Faxon barrel tipped with a Davinci Comp, a Red handguard carried in a Savior gun bag. Tell me you won't be intimidated by that sight! 😁

Thanks for the advice ADC very much appreciated.

Hey my gear looks awesome and shoots like 100 times better than I can. Looking good doing it is part of the game!
Looking good is confidence, confidence shoots better. I'm helping you shoot better ;)

Here are the Raven9 and FX9.

The Raven9 has the following:

Davinci Comp
Faxon 10" Tapered Barrel
KynSHOT PCC Hydraulic Buffer
Tinney Competition Trigger
Primary Arms SLx MD 3MOA Microdot
Lockhart Magwell

FX9

TandemKross Buffer
FX9 10" Upper
6oz Buffer (Presently testing)
SIG Romeo5
Techwell Magwell

The Raven9 is more expensive and wears more upgrades. Build quality (fit and finish) is substantially better then the FX9.

The major drawbacks of my Raven9 are/were:

1. The lack of a feed ramp. Flat point bullets have yet to feed reliably in the Raven9,

2. I and others have experienced broken firing pins. Lockhart indicated to me the faulty pins had heat treating issue and they have since received a new batch of pins. I have not tried them nor have I had any further firing pins fail on me.

The major drawbacks of my FX9 are/were:

1. My FX9 suffered from headspace issues resulting in several out of battery ignitions and swollen cases with both the 18.5" and 10" barreled uppers. Since resolved under warranty. NOTE: I have since discovered felt or any cloth cut thick enough to fill in the cutout notch on the Glock style mags glued in place with Krazy glue works better than trying to glue plastic to plastic. I even tried paper wich works once soaked in glue. Either way the mags now lift the bolt catch lever and the bolt locks back every time now on the FX9.

2. My FX9 continues to have 100% lock back issues after the last round. Wolverine did bend the lock back arm and it works some times on some of the mags. If you fill in the notch on the follower of Glock OEM or AM mags my gun will lock back the bolt 100% of the time. Call it what you want but Freedom have an issue that may have or may not have been resolved. I would insult your intelligence if I repeated their explanation for this failure. SHK marked Korean 10/32 mags work the best in my FX9.

Here is a picture of a modified mag. You have to shape your glued in part. I used a piece of plastic and Krazy glue. It is the red part in the photo before shaping.

With the comps both PCC's shoot dead flat. With the hydraulic buffer the Raven9 felt recoil is very much like a .22LR. Both comps cost about the same. I believe the Davinci Comp is the better of the two. I ordered both from the Manufacturer. The Raven9 has an improved trigger installed with an hydraulic buffer and better optic will be my primary competition gun.

For the record and because my shooting buddies know this, I shoot both PCC's about the same....not well. With the red forearm, red Ruger Hat, 511 Vest and Levi Shorts/Jeans I do look awesome though. Ya just cant buy talent but god knows I tried. :>)
