That’s right, I paid thirteen and a half Canadian Dollars to site sponsor Kelly’s Sporting Goods, and they sent me this beautiful un-issued 1951 Polish police TT-33:

Here is what I paid them:

(You knew there had to be a catch…)

Perfect un-issued condition, all numbers match (except the magazine): frame, slide, barrel, even down to the hammer disconnector and other bits. Barrel is brand new, strong sharp rifling. Fit and function is perfect, feels like other Tokarevs if you’re familiar, just perfectly pristine. Once you take out the slack, the trigger is medium with a very clean break.

Going to the range tomorrow, so we’ll see how she shoots. I’ll report any problems on the off chance there’s any.

Here’s some more shots of my new favourite (excuse the harshness of the flash; it was already dark when I opened the package):

These are in 7,62x25 not 9x19. All parts appear to be standard, inter-changeable with the Russian TTs. Gun was not coated inside and out with Cosmoline, but the metal and action are perfect, so they were probably just oiled and stored in a dry warehouse.

I desperately want the packing crate of 40 pistols that these came in. And some more pistols to go in it. Been looking for people at my Club that want one of these, and if I can get about 20 on board, I can keep the rest for myself. Does anyone know if the CFO (specifically Nova Scotia) would give me grief on transferring 40 Restricteds at once?

I see that Kelly’s is now running a promotion to randomly give away one fully-matched pistol (magazine, too!), entering everyone who has already purchased one, plus anyone who buys one by the end of the week.

Noted that another sponsor, SFRC (The Ammo Source), has also sourced a crate of these. But they sold out in days! Any other stores got on the band-wagon yet?

Looks like they’ll be making the rounds in Canada now that the Polish government has decided to surplus them. I, for one, am excited. But don’t think they’ll be coming in by the thousands like the SKSs; there can’t be that many left-over police side-arms from a smaller nation, as compared to regular issue battle rifles for the USSR. When supply runs out (soon is my guess), people will be paying much more.

Ending with a family shot, Radom un-issued on top, Izhevsk re-furbished left, Hungary Tokagypt 9mm right (just the beginning of a collection):

I thought it would have been a gift card for the rest, lol

Congrats on a new gun, always nice to add to the collection

I never suspected that the TT-33 would be such a nice shooter until I actually got one. Even the standard grip is surprisingly comfortable to hold. But damnation is it loud! The first time I tried mine, the range woman literally came in from the lobby to see what I was shooting.

Range outing successful:

That's with 1953 surplus ammunition, 20 yards. About as good as I can be expected to shoot; no bull's-eye, but good enough to put holes in Capitalist Pig. I put a couple more magazines through her, no problems at all, and switched off to the Russian re-furb. Cleaned her up with water and Hoppe's when I got home, oiled, and now she goes in the back of one of the safes. I'm definitely getting some more while they're available.

Did you actually use real money? That's pretty awesome.

... You are now bankster enemy #!.

Absolutely. Maybe some other stores are getting some of these from whichever importer brought them in, but only Kelly's readily lists bullion as a form of payment. I asked if I could buy a crate with bricks, and they said fine.

Varsol® is best, based on cost if you want to fill a bucket with it and soak. The Tokarev is easy to dis- and re- assemble, maybe leave the hammer group together and just shake it vigorously in the bucket, and poke a tooth-brush around the crevices. I don't know the constituents off-hand (Google it), but it's some kinds of petroleum distillates, and there's even cheaper store brands you'll find on the shelf next to it.

Brake cleaner is certainly very effective, but buying it in standard aerosol cans will be more expensive. It's basically made up of acetone and toluene or xylene, things that evaporate readily. You can buy plain acetone (cheaper at Wal*Mart in the beauty section than at a hardware store) and add whatever you think will make it equivalent, or use it plain (acetone only on non-painted finishes and away from plastics).

These things are all spark flammable, dangerous to concentrate and inhale, will damage many surfaces in your home, possible carcinogens or other nasty problems, and might require special disposal according to local laws, so take necessary precautions. It's a wonder they sell them without a DVCPAL*.

I'll say again: my pistol did not require de-greasing; it was oiled, clean, and ready to fire. I don't know if it's the store who removed the Cosmoline, the importer, the Polish government warehouse, or if they weren't stored in Cosmo in the first place.

Forgot to mention: Varsol® is basically kerosene, so a bucket of that will work pretty much the same way.

Just because you've already got a bottle of it laying about, don't mix up Varget with Varsol; the results will not be satisfactory.

I have brake cleaner and acetone. Is the brake cleaner one that eats plastic ie the grips? Maybe it won't be gooped up when it arrives?
