My son took his first blackie this morning with his 270Win. with one shot in the heart using 130gr. hornady spire point. We spotted him on a steep hill side at 500 yards feeding and stalked within 100 yards of the hill he was on and waited for him to appear on the edge, it took 20 min. and he showed up and the rest is history. Thanks for sharing a story with my son, i will never forget.

Here are the pictures. Congrats again John!

Great job! I have wonderful memories of my dad taking me out hunting when I was a youngster. I'm sure your son will look back 20 years from now and recall with great pleasure his first black bear. Lucky the .270 worked out though, as everyone knows the .280 is the bare minimum for bear. No pun intended!

Great stuff, John. I know how you feel. I well remember Jeff'd first dee, bear and moose. They came in that order and I was privileged to be there for the shots on the deer and the bear.

Our congratulations to you both! :D

Best,
Ted

Wow, what have the neighbours had to say after seeing a bear hanging in the front of your house?

bear

Yea there is no better feeling than when your kids get thier first game animals, he shot his first last year a big fork mulie and now the bear which we have worked hard at getting a good oportunity for a good clean shot. It came 2 1/2 weeks before our mulie trip this year so i hope to have more pics of that trip for you guys, and yes most of my neighbours hunt or are really cool about the animals i bring home. I usally have them skinned in the cooler the same day. Thanks James for posting the pics and to all you guys for your comments, i let the kid read them all i makes him fell great and pumps him up to be a better hunter. John & Wills.

bear

I agree BigUglyMan he is a bit camera shy, i'm working on that. And yes Death-Junky he will be breakfast sausage & smokies that is what we did with my bear and they we the best we ever had. My boy thinks all you guys are great and an inspiration with all of your comments. Thanks John & Wills.
