Broke in the new .300WM on this guy...

He was the opposite of ground shrink...he really didn't look that good when he was running, it wasn't til he was on the ground that he grew all the points.

About 120 yds, running. He was bedded in a field with a doe about 600 yds in the field...zoomed the Bushnell 6500 in to 16x, he didn't look that good. He got up and started running so we went to where he was going, he ran right in front of us. I put the gun up as he was running away...dang scope was still on 16x...found him quick and squeezed one off. Went down like a brick. 165 gr Hornady SST made a monstrous hole in him.
 
Saskatchewan is supposed to be in the west and the west is supposed to use the single side count. Regardless where you are from, if you take the head to an official scorer, he/she will give you six points on the right antler and either 6 or seven points on the left antler, depending whether or not the little point nearest the tip of the main beam, is over an inch long, and is longer than its width.
The tips of the main beams are counted as points, but not measured as a point.
By the way, the branching point on the left antler, above your hand, is an abnormal point and will count against the score.

Yeah, I don't think he'll score as good as he looks. I probably won't even have him scored. It's a number that means nothing to me really. That forking G2/3 is a big deduction. Yeah, that small point on the end of the left main beam is over an inch. I call him a 7x7 with a couple character points.

If you look between the G3 and 4 on his right side, there was another big point there and there was another between G4 and 5. He was a 9x8 after velvet, but someone beat the crap out of him, I guess.

East Central.

Not much of a story, saw him about 600 yards away, he really didn't look that great. He didn't look that wide and didn't have great mass. His body was quite small too. Was actually going to pass him by. I don't JUST hunt for trophies, but we have a lot of decent bucks in our area and it was only Wednesday of the first week. I look so forward to deer season and I had the whole week off and I didn't want it to be over yet unless he was really nice.

So he and the doe got up and started to run and we knew where they were going to go, so we went to where they were going and they ran right past us, 50 yards away. He didn't look that good, even that close. His rack is really light coloured and he was in wheat stubble, so the number of points wasn't apparent. I finally told my brother I was going to take him when it was about 120 yards away(he didn't even have his rifle loaded and wasn't going to shoot). I only had 3 days left, he has all 3 weeks, he's self employed and enjoys hunting as much as he can.

My scope(Bushnell Elite 6500) was still on 16x from when I was looking at him earlier, didn't realize until the scope was up and I didn't think I'd have time to turn it down, so I found him and squeezed one off. Really surprised me I was able to find him so quickly, when we're looking into valleys, if I have it on 16x, I have a hard time locating things right away. I think I learned that lesson though and won't forget again.

Anyway, he was hit well and dropped instantly. I had that feeling...damn, I'm done for the year...going to be some major ground shrink on this one...damn, I'm going to be pushing bush the rest of the week. It wasn't until we got up to him that we realized how many points he had. Turns out he was probably the best buck I've seen in 25 years of hunting.

Didn't have my digital camera with me, so all I've got for field pics are with a cell phone camera, and I don't have them yet(on brother's phone). I've also got a bunch on a disposable camera that I have to get developed.
 
nice Deer glad to hear someone hunts with a .300 WM for deer im getting a Rem 798 soon in .300 and im going to use it as well for long range deer and so far everyone is like:eek::eek::eek: your going to demolish the deer with that elephant gun!!!!!!!!!! in my opinion as long as i select the right load it wont be any differnt than a 30-06 hitting the deer 50 yards or less which these same people who told me this dont have a problem with....

plus i cant afford 2000000 guns for every possible application (yet:)) so this one will be good for moose or ever bear possibly next year.
