Eagleye you spent what on a Ross 10; OK, so I see a large scope and an appearance at the 1000mtr shoot this year. This barrel is the bore .311 or .308? Ross, ross; I'll have to dig around I think I have one somewhere, I haven't shot one in a long time.
While we're on the subject what is an accuracy load for these?

Nice thing is that it will likely have a "commercial" chamber .... I bought a similar rebarreled M-10 from a noted board member a few years ago. I now have 3 rifles that have commercial chambers, which share the same brass. I size to the tightest chamber - bit tricky to figure out with a Ross...

I have 3 Ross Model 10 factory sporters, an early M-10 (280), a late M-10, and an R-10. But my favorite model is the 1905-R. It is one of the nicest pointing, looking, and slickest sporters I've handled.
I always liked the Ross rifle, a straight pull bolt looks pretty slick, I've been hunting for a Mauser 96 American, the only one I've seen for sale in Canada turned out to be a scam. OP your new barrel will give you years of service and preserve a piece of Canadian history.
I'll be corrected if I'm wrong, but wasn't the Ross banned from military marksmanship competition (in the 280 Ross) because it kept beating the Americans with their Springfeilds? Something about the 280 Ross not being an "issued" caliber, but being in the 7 Rem Mag class, got the bullet to the target way quicker than the 30-06 could, cleaned house on the American shooting teams?
I've got one of those old rifles, and am not worried in any way about the strength of the action. Not when many were converted to 303 Epps which is in the similar ballpark as the 300 Win Mag.

Yes, that 280 was quite a cartridge in the day. Unfortunately, bullets of the day were not constructed to behave at those velocities.
My Rebarrelled Ross showed up yesterday, I'll have some pictures up later today. It is very nicely done [Jennings did it]
The bluing is superb, the whole package looks like new, except for the carry marks on the stock, lol.
I am going to put together some ammo, and soon [hopefully] see how this performs.

Actually, the Epps is closer to the 30-06 than it is to the 300 Win Mag. I have one in the strong P14 action, and 2700 with the 180 is possible, but not much more. Dave.
The 280 Ross is a 7 mag with the band removed, it was loaded to 280 rem velocities with the powders of the day, shot flatter than the 06 and was a favourite sniper round

I have one Ross 10, which is too nice to change anything on, but I'm wondering if a Ross showed up with a fuzzy barrel and rebarreling was OK, why not use the 303brass and neck down to 7mm. Balistics should be about equal to the 7-08? 7-303B.

Thus my desire to make a truly functional [ if not quite original, lol] for myself.

I'm going to try and get the one from my Brother's estate that he built.
Its in 458 Win. Mag. and shoots and functions like a dream, his first hunting trip with it bagged a nice Bull Moose..
