My 1952 Tula SKS (Pic Heavy)

I would also like to say this, I owned a 1955/56 Tula from Wolverine that came in the IZH shipment and had the rod welded to the follower arm done in Canada. I must say almost all the rifles I have seen pictures of that had the IZH magazine pin job had brutal scuffs and almost dents and scratches on the wood stock just above the magazine. I guess this is where some guy has put your stock in a vise and clamped the teeth right down on the wood leaving your nice SKS stock damaged!

I don't notice this nearly as much on the Leverarms/Westrifle shipment, somebody in Russia may be taking a bit better care or they are securing the gun another way for the rod pin welded to the mag.

good observation , yes, some of the woods near the mag were badly scuffed by the dudes welding the blocks in canada.

altho i havent seen the ones from wolverine, i did talk to john and he mentioned to me his displeasure at the workmenship.

having said that, not all are that badly scuffed, my russian from epp and homeharware werent too bad and the best would be the ones from moving target , he had them pinned locally .

Hello,

I would like to say that Wolverine had a great rifles I have seen examples of it. As far as I know moving target got theirs from IZH Impex but I might be wrong. I talked to Ben at Izh and he is having trouble bringing another container in and it is same with many dealers. As to our quality yes those are frankepinned but I am working on changing that to accommodate our clients. As to quality of stock and a rifle itself we are handpicking those and that is why it is better quality of a rifle. We spend time and money to fly to Russia and choose the best ones available for Canadian market.

we were talking about the first IZH shipment that arrived in 2008 , and the mags were pinned in canada, moving target and wolverine has some of the same shipments a year ago.

yes, handpicking is always better when it comes to surplus . i think alot of us here are counting on you to convincing them not to frankken pin.

Does Moving Target still have some IZH pinned SKS's, or are they all now the frankenpinned?

unfortunately , you are a little late for that , the IZH non-frankken pinned were quicky sold out just about the same time when all the frankken pinned arrived and now they are pretty hard to find , just a few pops up on EE once in awhile .

Am I correct that the Norinco SKSs were never franken pinned?

franken pin is a term strictely used by CGN, meaning a hole is drilled thru the bottom of a mag and then a block is welded to the bottom of the mag.

so far the current chinese SKS arent like that but still not like the IZH first shipment non-franken (i dont think it will ever happen again).

the pin on the chinese are attached to mag floor by flairing a tiny piece of the pin that protrude thru, nice and clean looking , all you see is a tiny piece. no welding, no sanding and no coverup painting.

it was mentioned here that you should clean it the same day you shoot it. i have had mine sitting at least two weeks since i shot it, not cleaned. is it causing permanant damage? how bad if so.

I concur; I bought one from Frontier. Awesome gun but it has a nasty Garr in the stock above the magazine on the left side. Too bad because otherwise it's a great gun

Get some wood filler and a fine black felt tip pen. To get the Garr out!
