MY 1st AR15 ...WHICH ONE

What upgrades does my 20" 4R need? Have I been missing out and shooting poorly because I lack a rail system? All those years wasted. :jerkit:

Ammo and lots of it are the best accessory an AR can have. Training will do more to improve accuracy with a service rifle than any bolt ons.

As for the remington R15, the one I shot worked fine and grouped well. They should hold up fine for 99% of Canadian users. For DCRA Service Rifle they are just about perfect, and quite cheap.

My point was never intended to infer theres anything wrong with the classic look of the stock platform.

Hey, its called TactiCOOL for a reason. Im knee deep in AR parts and the visa bill that proves it. I'm just suggesting from a dollar and sense standpoint that a buck could actually be saved by buying one thats already got the Bling. It never occurred to me someone would buy an AR and not go LegoBlock CRAZY changing things like myself and allot of other users have in an effort to build a neat looking space gun.

I'd also say a good optic and sling are two other essentials. And while I don't want to underscore training, ergonomics is important, too; if the right stock, handguard, grip, etc. makes an AR more comfortable to shoot they're worthwhile upgrades.

You can also see improvements with an enhanced charging handle (such as a PRI Gasbuster), heavier buffer, molded/contoured pistol grip, 2-stage trigger, flash hider, etc.

What distinguishes KAC from the others?

Ambidextrous safety is the only thing I know of.
They look bloody nice!
There must be more reasons to own one!
Kevin give me your best sales pitch!

The most important things: a lightweight CHF barrel with intermediate-length gas system, E3 bolt, midlength URX II rail with built in flip up front slight, and 600m BUIS. Oh, and KAC's 2-stage trigger.

What is so good about the E3 bolt?

Just priced out from Questar: Spikes lower w/M4 stock: $390, LMT 10.5 or 14.5 upper (w/o BCG/charge handle/handguards): $637, CMMG F/A BCG $169, charge handle: $33 and UTG M4 handguards $10...that'd be about $1239 (+taxes & shipping). Seems like a pretty decent rifle to me (all things considered and definitely worth the $340 over a Norinco M4...but that's just my opinion).

That's not my rifle...Thats one of the ones shown on Alberta Tactical's webpage. My point is that, rather than buy one of the mass produced ones (which are almost all coming out of the same plant) then having to replace part by part, only to have an awesome rifle built on a crappy lower, just have it done right the first time. Sure it'll set you back a bit more than the $1200 an entry level north american made ar will cost... but your getting a turn key product... a Canadian made Hotrod of sorts that leaves little if anything to upgrade.

LMT, Colt, KAC are hardly crappy lowers, dude :D

I really would like to build an ATRS AR one day. Billit Upper and custom engraved lower.

If you can afford to, support CGN dealers and manufactures! They help support our rights!

Who's issuing Stag in the LMD?

Abbotsford are carrying AR-15 carbines in their cars. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a Stag rifle. Most likely a Colt but who knows. I forgot to ask. I got a brief look at one, but it was mounted in an upright rack where out cup holder is on the RCMP cars. I couldn't see which brand it was.

If reliability is #1.. go for an 11.5 inch over the 10.5. that one extra inch works miracles!:p
I switched from my 16 inch factory barrel to a Noveske 10.5 inch barrel and never had one problem. I did not change anything internally, from the buffer spring to the hammer spring, I changed nothing except the barrel, and have never had any cycling issues. I have also tried numerous flash hiders from Noveske to original birdcage, still no problems.

Where is the statistical evidence to support the supposed improved reliability of 11.5 vs 10.5? Theoretically one may be more reliable, but I just want to know if it translates into a real world difference.

Either a Colt Canada C8 or a Stag Arms G2.

So, who makes the absolute Shakira's Ass of lower parts kits? That one can buy separately, I mean?

I can't say for certain which is the "best" LPK but I have been using Colt recently , not because I drink the Colt kool-aid, but rather its one of the more readily available LPK w/o trigger group

Most of my builds are getting non std triggers ( Geislle, RRA 2 Stg , CMC etc ) so what is the point on buying a LPK only to toss out the trigger group .

The 2nd thing with the Colt LPK ( they call it an "accessories kit" )at Brownells is it comes with the screw style pivot pin

Lastly it does not have selector switch ( inexpensive anyways )

This kit is about $20 more than let say a DPMS kit

Part # 160-311-101

You can also buy this as a LPK for small pin lower Part # 080-000-606 that has the selector and FC group pins but for some reason its far more money that the other kit. You end up paying another $90 over the #160-311-101 to get the selector, trigger pins and a push style pivot pin !!Go figure

According to KAC greatly increased reliability and service life because of : Increased web bolt lugs, Dual spring extractor, thickened extractor hook, bolt face dirt groove, narrowed cam pin for increase bolt body strength, etc.

So not much really? :D

Sounds likes another major reason to spen the extra money on KAC.
