I went out this evening, it was my 2nd to last chance to get something before the season closes on Friday. Right at dark this guy followed a couple does, and I put him down. He's skinned and hangin' in the shop, I guess I will sleep in on Friday :D

he is 25 inches wide

shot him with my 243, I was actually out looking for a coyote. 55 grain Ballistic Tip. I made sure I avoided the shoulder and waited until he turned broadside at fairly close range before shooting. The bullet actually went right through him, which suprised me.

Experience is better than opinion, and you just proved it...
I thought it was impossible for a non premium bullet to make an exit wound.
Nice job, but a bit big of a deer to shoot with a varmint bullet. :50cal::50cal::D
See, you dont need a TSX to do the job.:)

That's a really nice buck! It's also good to see guys who wait for the perfect shot, and are most likely willing to pass if the shot doesn't present itself, posting things like that. Great work.

How close is fairly close in your world?

How did the bullet fair? Heart shot? Did he drop or bleed out?

fairly close is 75 yards

lung shot, he made it about 80 yards on noodle legs before tipping over. The bullet really pulverized the nearside lung, but the farside lung only had a toonie sized hole through it, and the exit was about the same size.

Another reason to use a .243 for varmints.:D

I'm going "varmint" hunting next week with the .50 ML, maybe a nice deer will walk out.;):D:D
