Well I'm so pleased I just have to share.
A few friends and I hunt in WMU 56 each year not too far from Haliburton. We've been at it almost 10 years and have had the privilege of taking some nice animals. But on the last day of my hunt, at 2 in the afternoon, this beauty came wandering into my trap. I hung a little (synthetic) doe urine along a trail where I knew the deer were travelling, took a position about 50 yards away up on top of a knoll, and started scanning downwind. I really wasn't expecting much to happen, and the urine was a bit of a hail mary on the last afternoon of the hunt. 5 minutes later this guy showed up. Sauntered in like he owned the forest, decided he wasn't interested in the scent and turned broadside to me at 50 yards.
The rifle I used is a Ruger M77 limited Edition in .358 Winchester, topped with a Steiner 2-8x Ranger Scope, shooting Hornady 200gr Interlock SP bullets I'm usually a stainless / synthetic gun guy.....My taste leans more modern. But I'm also a .358 Winchester addict. One shot was all it took, he ran 25 yards, wobbled and fell over. Complete pass-thru, entry and exit indicate perfect expansion. I'm really starting the love the old school charm of this rifle.
Field Dressed the buck weighed almost 200lbs. I'm feeling very fortunate and thankful this week. Spending time in the field with friends is a special thing, and to complete the hunt with this harvest was amazing.
