My .22-250 accuracy falls off quickly?

I've got a Remington 700 Varmint action with the factory varmint barrel sitting in a HS Precision stock. I've had the rifle about a year and put a few hundred rounds through it. The trigger and action are stock. The rifle normally shoots 1" groups at 200 yards. Give or take. I normally shoot 4 shot groups and after abut 6 or 7 rounds the accuracy starts to fall of dramatically. I'm lucky to get a 3 inch group on the second 4 rounds and after that 4-6" group. I usually end up doing a quick cleaning after every second group. Is this normal? What could I do to fix this? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I normally shoot Federal Power Shok 55gr Soft Points. I was using Federal V-shok with 55 gr Sierra Game Kings but I can't get them where I live. The scope is a Bushnell 3200 3-9x40 in Weaver windage adjustable rings on an EGW 0 MOA base.

I find that the 22-250 is a cartridge that heats the barrel very quickly. With my gun (I have a sporter barrel) I get 3 shots before accuracy goes to hell. I let it cool for about 20-30 min and it's back to normal. It could be with your heavier varmint barrel that it takes a little longer to heat the thicker barrel, and that's why you're getting 6 shots before your accuracy drops off. The heavier barrel will also mean that it will take longer for it to cool as well.

Geez quit cleaning so often. Most likely causing some damage with your cleaning rountine!
Cause of your flyers after 5 rounds most likely caused by heat. If you can't touch the barrel to your upper lip beacuse of the fear of causing 1st & 2nd burns LOL. Slow down the rate of fire and increase the time for cool down to a civilized rate. Most wear will occur when the barrel is hot and no amount of cleaning is going to bring back blow torched rifling.
Just my 2 cents worth!

Number of things > Stop cleaning , get the trigger adjusted , if reloading check your stuff allover , barrel rifling is first to find out , and see velocity is not beyound some where 3500 f/s and after that many bullets start coming apart , OR sell the rifle to me I'll bear the pain

sounds like a heat issue.....

Like mentioned above is the barrel free floated? can you run a piece of paper like a $5 bill between the barrel and stock all the way to the action with out getting snagged or caught?....

Your action screws might be loosening off and you might benefit from a good bedding job.

The barrel is free floated. The action screws are tightened to HS specs. I'm going to slow down on burning rounds down the pipe. Looks like it's time to get an SKS to keep me busy while I wait for the barrel to cool.
