My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

One of the nicest among the older Anschutz rifles in my opinion is the 1411. I got another one this winter, this one made in 1964. I replaced the trigger with a newer one. It still needs some adjustment. Today was my first time out with the rifle, and despite some sloppiness on my part it shows potential to be a really nice shooter.




I shot at 57 yards with Center X. The scope is a Bausch and Lomb 36X (not the same one as yesterday in case anyone is wondering).

I see your shooting season has started. Those 2 « new to you » Anschutz look very nice. You have reconditioned the stocks pretty nicely. They seem to shoot quite good too.

Thanks for sharing this report, Glen. Nice to see the older Annie's performing really well. I find that generally most older models have quite good barrels. The timber on yours has some nice figure in it too. Awesome.

This is a new rifle and scope. I shot it for the first time yesterday. Today I thought I'd try some Eley ammo, but the rifle did not respond well to the English fare, so I went back to the German cuisine I gave it on Sunday. The rifle definitely has a preference for Lapuawurst.

The rifle is an Anschutz 1907 BR 50 with a Sightron SIII 10-50 scope. The ammo was Center X. The distance is 57 yards.

These early results give encouragement to think that this is a rifle with which the 1/4" challenge can be shot. With more practice, perhaps some better ammo, it may be possible. That's my next goal, which I hope to do with each of my best rifles.

Very nice, the potential is definitely there. That sure looks like a very good lot of Center-X, seems like you just got hit by some wind drift and tuning related vertical. Not sure how easy it will be to find any "better" ammo, a task with which you cannot simply spend more money per box of ammo and assume it will perform better. I did some shooting on Sunday as well and Center-X did the best for me, followed by a mediocre performance by Midas + and a disappointing performance with my last box of X-Act (which I will never buy again). I had changed my barrel bedding and end of day realized my tuner setting was no longer ideal, therefore I essentially wasted some good ammo that I know can perform better, I need to figure out my tuning again.

If you're going to get serious on 1/4", it's high time you started using your tuner. Not to say you can't achieve it without it, but you are not doing yourself any favors shooting naked barrel. With tuner properly set, your rifle will "like" the Eley ammo just fine. Naked barrel you also have to factor in finding a lot of ammo that the naked barrel likes. With tuner (properly set), as long as the ammo is good, the rifle will shoot it well. Whether it's Eley, RWS or Lapua, it matters not, so long as it is a good lot. Good luck.

Thanks. Unfortunately, no tuner will make that Eley shoot like the Center X in this rifle. It was just that bad. I think the Midas + I have will be an improvement over the Center X. If it doesn't do it with the 1907, it has given groups in the .1's with two other rifles more than a few times. In any case, I still need more time with the 1907; I've only shot it on two occasions. But you are right that a properly set up tuner will improve the chances of wringing the best from the rifles and ammo. I've got one ready for the 1907 and another that needs to be bored to fit a second rifle.

I have been watching this thread for sometime and admiring some incredible shooting, and very nice toys. Finally had the chance yesterday to try out a toy I purchased this winter with a scope I bought from Grauhanen (Glenn). It is the Sightron 36X. Very nice scope. I was on the 110 yard range sighting in some other guns and thought to give it a try. As I am understanding from reading this thread, rimfire can make one humble. This is true. I need to work on my one flyer issue then will try to join this group with some shots on the 50 m range. Keep up the great shooting guys. I love looking and reading what everyone is saying and find it incredibly helpful as I am sure others do also.
