My 257 Weatherby

I've had three; a Mark V Synthetic that my son claimed when he was 11, a 700 LSS and my current one which is a Laserguard S2. They all shot loads that they liked.

That last one got a bit of a work-out last year when a friend and I did a population control hunt on fallows and reds. Its quite effective out to 700 and the light recoil helped see the bullets hit. The 115 gr NBT(7828) and 110 Accubond (H1000/2217) (3450 FPS on both) proved to be quite similar in performance, the 100 gr Scirocco (3500) is quite a bit tougher (read that as somewhat slower killing on the small fallows) but a penetrating bastard on anything and solid killer of reds.

Also used a 80 grain TTSX at 3950 fps that was probably the biggest POS I've ever used on game.

Interesting results, I’ve always stayed clear of the cup and cores in my 257wby and found the 80gr ttsx to work well, although I’ve never taken game past 200yards with that bullet

I am another hunter who is less than enamored with the monometal bullets.
Had a couple fail to expand, and the similar long runs on a couple more.
I must try that 115 Ballistic tip...sounds like a quick killer on light game. Dave.

Ive pushed the 117gr btsp interlock in my 2506 with great success at 3100fps. Deer coyotes and wolves just drop. Only animal to live to make it to the ground after taking one was a female wolf bout 85lbs. Took a high shoulder shot. She dropped but was still alive when i walked up to her. Freaky having her watch me. Both shoulders and spine were demolished. With the butt of the gun on her neck i finished her with my spydeco between the ribs. Always wondered how theyd perform at 3300fps. Fired at 3100 mv they work perfect for deer from 50-310 yards

I am liking this Vanguard better all the time. Latched onto some 115 Ballistic Tips,
and loaded them plus some 115 Partitions. Both shot under ¾moa :) What's not to like?
Dave.

That's the sort of thing that I've come to expect from Vanguards. Reliable accuracy, impeccable function, one piece field stripable forged bolt with M16 extractor, forged (or maybe extruded, DWYA) action with integral recoil lug, good trigger, some stock options that came right off the $2-2500 Mark Vs. Its sort of like they made a list of every penny pinching manufacturing short-cut then didn't do any of them. :)You can even get 26" barrels now.

All they need is a 3.700" mag box and a little classier bottom end.
