My .300 blackout rifle - not typical

My M96 - now convertible between .223 & .300 blk :)

Top barrel & gas system is the original 21"(never use this anymore) - middle one is the 18.5" .300 BLK (needs its own oprod & spring due to the faster drop in pressure) - bottom (installed in the rifle) is the 18.5" .223 barrel & gas system -

So I have 3 oprods, pistons & springs, 5 bolts, 2 extractors, 4 cam pins & 2 firing pin assemblies - plus the 3 gasblocks, front sights & barrel extensions

Since RA no longer stocks parts (I got lucky & Wolverine had the spare firing pin & extractor) - I made everytyhing else (the barrels were made by Ian Herron)

The cool part is it shoots great - really smooth stroking gas system - and it converts calibers in less than a minute - non res, so I get A LOT of mileage out of this gun -

I use it for plinking, hunting & CQB - I custom machined a rail to fit my vortex SPARC so that I can co-witness with the original irons - minimal optics keeps the weight down on a somewhat heavy rifle.

I would love to get a barrel made for my ACR in 300BLK. once I get the money together I'll try and get one sorted out.

Nice work on that M96.
 
He he - I spoke with him about the Tavor - it's more difficult on the bullpup (although he had his work cut out for him doing mine as well) - the pressure drops off so quickly due to the bigger bore that its hard to get enough gas to cycle the action.

He had to make a custom spring (my .223 springs are just too strong) - and it will not cycle subsonic. The M96 gas systme is adjustable (5 positions) and I use them for .223 depending on conditions & ammunition - but for the .300BLK we basically blocked off the bleed & it only runs on full gas. Its pretty cool though - looking forward to next years deer season :)
 
Great job! Love my M96 too. Was that whole .300blk assembly made from scratch? Rough cost involved?
 
Yeah - there aren't many of us M96 owners around - I love mine too - its just a cool design I guess (not necessarily better than any other - just cool) - great trigger, AR mags, quick change barrel & NR :)
Although I do love my Swiss Carbine as well - great quality (and with the NEA lower I get to use my AR mags) - if it wasn't restricted I would use it all the time, and leave the M96 in the .300 BLK configuration - two great black rifles in 2 great calibers.....

I wish RA would have continued M96 production. If it were ever re-introduced I'm sure it would sell well here in Canada.

In this config - with mag & the spare battery, small cleaning kit & 2X magnifier in the stock (there is a pretty big compartment in the troy CQB stock) it comes in at 10lbs even.
