Actually I shoot a lot. Picking a small kill zone, on even a large animal can be next to impossible when your front beed covers the whole beast. How big of an area does a front bead of say . . . the stock win 94 cover at 200 yards? Add to that, cover, low light and it's hopeless. Been there. Done that.
With practice, in daylight some amazing shooting can be done with irons, especially better target ones. Of course, these match sights tend to have smaller aperatures which make them useless for exptreme hunting conditions.
Yet even with the better durabilty, lower expense, it seems even military weapons seem to sport some sort of optics. Guess they don't shoot much either!
