I started as a individual who always scoffed at lower caliber ammo esp .22 LR ,to a person that cannot stop smilling everytime i shoot this rifle. To make a long story short i shot my coworkers Ruger .22 and fell in luv with it and had to have a .22 LR of my own. After purchasing my 597 i cannot stop adding thing onto it. I think my 597 is almost complete and i am just waiting for that 30 round mag that i ordered from the states to come in. Well here she is in all her glory , shoots magnificient with CCI ammo btw... I shoot this firearm more then any other in my collection and still doesn't dent my wallet. A reformed .22 LR owner :)

Get a Volquartsen hammer for it, if you haven't already. It's the best thing I ever did to my 597 Magnum. At ww.hawktecharms.com/remington/597.htm

That is a nice rifle! I have the 597 LSS rifle and love it. I got 4 10 round mags for it and two 30's on the way. I also have the Volquartsen Hammer (made a huge differance on trigger pull), exact edge extrator and scope rail. Easily my favorite rifle!

Dar 701 thanks for the compliment. I was also lookin at that Volquartsen hammer that you suggested i put in. Can you install that yourself or does it need gunsmithing .... It says on the website referred to by Zulu mike that is a "drop in" hammer, but i assume it is a little more technical then that. Sorry i have never done any sort of DIY install before so wanted to make sure before i ordered. Hopefully it comes with instructions on how to install.

The install is quite easy. Take off the trigger group from the rifle, drift out the hammer pin, take out the hammer. Remount the hammer spring on the new hammer and reinstall. Takes me longer to find my Allen keys to take apart the rifle than it did to swap the hammer. The Volquartsen hammer drops the trigger pull down by about 50% and gets rid of the creep. Volquartsen makes very nice parts for a good price, I am very happy with them.

First off, nice job on the 597. I have a Bushnell scope on mine but did not think about a bipod, it looks ok.

Secondly, what ammo you running through it? I was using Federal lightning 40 grain and was getting some wicked jamming. Did some research and found that it could have been my mags. I have had the gun for a while and had the older plastic ones, which I just now replaced with the newer metal ones. I am going to take it out this weekend and give it a try with some Federal Champion 36 grain and see if that smooths this out.

Will also look forward to a post on how the new hammer install goes if you go ahead with that. If it really lightens up the trigger pull and is a drop in part, then may just have to pick that up as well.

Who says customising is just for 10/22 :)

Thanks Busta Capp for the compliments. I have only used 2 types of ammo since i have gotten the rifle. I have used Ferderal American Eagles , which i found jammed 1 every 10 shots. I recently used CCI Velocitors and found no jams at all after goign through more then half a brick and the power in that ammo is astounding. Going this weekend to use CCI Mini Mags which are heard are also great. OH and all my mags are the new generation 3 metal magazines and i have not have any problems with it at all.
