My 700 $ howa !

Is that the Weatherby Obsidian? Bass pro had them for $700, and then a flash sale if you bought it online and saved another 10%. Picked up on for $661 out the door in 7mm REM Mag. Trying it out this week.

Congrats of the kill!

Just a regular old howa hogue 1500 I bought back in September...planning to put it into a chassis soon but works good on elk and deer so far ....as is...lol

What calibre and other details on choice of bullet and range .
Congrats too !!
So it's a 6.5 creedmoor and I used 140 grain norma whitetail. The animal was hit slightly higher than I would have liked but it went less than 50 yards. Nice thru and thru with no meat wasted

Congrats again and thank you for the details.
I’ll have to read up on the Norma ammo you used.
No meat wasted is good to hear too!!!

I have a smith and wesson 1500 in 270 win, basically identical to weatherby vanguard or howa. the gun is 40+ years old, and with handloaded 140gr nosler accubonds has accounted for many animals from antelope to moose over the years, they are great guns.
I won it in a fish and game draw in the early 80's and gave it to my FIL, got it back in 2005 when he passed away, I had shortened the original wood stock for him and it was to short for me so I dropped it in a weatherby vanguard synthetic stock, packed it in the fall of 2005 and took a nice antelope with it, it will eventually be passed down to one of my nephews to keep it in the family.

Thats awesome! Hope you carry on for a long while yet!

I also have a Smith and Wesson 1500, but in 30-06. Great shooting gun for being 40+ years old. I handload Hornady SST’s in 165gr.

I am certainly happy my Howa Vanguard Series 2 in .223 caliber. Although the only thing I have shot with it so far is paper but every time I am out with it the first shot is dead on. I got mine for a pretty good deal and am very impressed with the build, accuracy and quality overall. I ended up picking up a HACT 2lb trigger spring kit from the Gunbloke in Australia and it really made for a light two stage trigger. It sort of reminds me of shooting one of my Weihrauch air rifles.

I also have a 223 howa in a chassis...cdn addition. Like yours the first shot is where they all go. I placed the trigger spring as well and it's nice ans light

Nice, I thought about a chassis but wanted to keep it as light as possible for carrying around

Good video, the only thing I wonder though is I was under the impression vanguard barrels need a bit of contact with the stock. There is actually a little bump in the forend channel so it is not free floated. Accuracy can go down hill if it is free floated. Did you change barrels with your stock or possibly full on Howa rifles have thicker barrels? Still plan to just leave mine as is. I don’t really have a lot of chances for long range shooting so have more of a tendency to trick out my rimfires.

I plan to put mine in a chassis. Will post a couple pics when done. Will let you know if the accuracy changes...haven't had time to do up any reloads yet

The Howa/Vanguard etal were always one of the biggest bargains around. Even the plainer ones kept the price down on finish and not the parts that mattered. Forged one piece bolt, M16 style extractor and either forged or extruded action; depends who you ask on that one. Only short comings are are magazine that could be longer and the bolt stop isn’t all that it could be. Fes will j os the difference on that one.
