So I have been super busy lately and my last trip to the range was easily 6 months ago. I know, way to long. Anyway, I pulled out some of my guns today to clean and oil them because I haven't done so in awhile, and I'm plaining a big range trip this weekend. As I was pulling out my CZ I realized I hadn't cleaned it after I shot it last. I remember I put a few squirts of CLP break free down the pipe, then I locked it up because dinner was ready and I figured I would clean it later. Well i totally forgot... and as I was pulling it out of my safe my heart sank as I was expecting to see a gun that would never work again. To my surprise, nothing!! After using surplus corrosive ammo, and letting it sit there for over six months... not one spot of rust. Now either that break free stuff is amazing, or these guns are tougher then I thought. Has anyone else let one sit dirty that long and no rust? Maybe I got a one off or something... because with all the complaints I see about rust, why didn't this happen to me?

I had it sit after cleaning it 1 day and found rust. It really depends on the ammo and how much moister is in the air.

I shot my CSA rifle and didn't have time to clean it right after like I usually do. It sat in my safe for a month before I cleaned it and the only part that had rust was inside the muzzle brake. Could be that I forgot to spray it with my Dupont Teflon Multi-Use. It's great stuff.

Oil prevents or delays rust from corrosive ammo. Put it dry in a humid basement after shooting corrosive & see what happens.

See that's what I'm thinking, a little oil goes a long way in preventing rust even if the gun isn't clean. I mean when I cleaned it it was really dirty. So the break free did an awesome job.

To the OP, check your gas system... bet you'll find rust.

The break free had gotten in there and it was fine. Believe me, I took the hole thing apart trying to find some and nothing. I was really surprised considering how many people seem to have problems with rust.

You are some lucky. I have not seen a single gun that could go 24 hours without rusting.
You wouldnt happen to be sellin break free eh..............Just kiddin...you got lucky, hope it stays with ya :)

Windex has always worked like a doll for me. pump that #### in there after training and then hose it down with proshot and hoppes to finish.

It didn't rust yet. Hot water, then lube after corrosive.

My buddy used to beak about how he never had to clean his SKS because of the dry Alberta air. Then one day, we were on our way out to heat it up, and had to hammer out the piston for replacement.

Humidity levels play a huge factor I have found.
I recently moved into a new house about 3 months back.
I shoot corrosive in my SVT, never had a problem with the old hot water, Eds Red everywhere to displace the water, clean with rags patches etc, then oil.

My new house has a damp/humid basement in the summer months, holy s**t was I surprised to see rust on any of my guns for the first time ever!

Let's just say I spend an extra couple of minutes cleaning them now with a little more attention to detail lol That and huge dessicant packs in my locker now ;)

There is no magic formula, it's just a combination of elbow grease and a solvent with rags followed by oil. Spend more time cleaning it carefully if you reside in a very humid area.

And always go back to check the rifle 2-3 days after to ensure you got it all because you can get rid of rust if you catch it in time with no harm. If you wait too long though.......

Have you considered that a chrome barrel won't rust? The gas assembly is most likely to show signs if you haven't used preventative maintenance.

wow. I see the light! I am a believer!

Hot water rinse, clean, wd40 ltci. Converted.

Wow!! Yeah I think I might pick some up, coz I just ran out of break free. Is it just regular WD40? What's with the LTCI business? Are they making something different, because I've never heard of WD40 LTCI.

Yeah but those are restricted. I like to take mine in the bush.

What a shill

haha anyways that's pretty interesting. I always thought Break Free wasn't crap but this is like the 4th time I'm seeing tests like this show it as one of the worst things you can put in your gun. I guess the military went with the lowest bidder trololol
