Why...because I wanted to. I bought this typical $180.00 Mosin (1940 Izhevsk) and after seeing it had been arsenal counter bored I was hopeful. A trip to the range shooting 1951 Czech 147 gr steel core copper wash and with the iron sights and poor trigger it produced 100 m groups under 3". So the project was born.

Boyds stock...Factory inletted for Timney trigger with 1" Limbsaver recoil pad factory fitted.
Timney trigger.
Rock Solid Industries mount.
Rock Solid Industries bolt handle (weld on).
Rock Solid Industries bedding pillars.
Burris 1" high profile rings (spares I had gathering dust).
Bushnell 4-12x42 (just what I had laying around).

You Tube was the biggest help on this do-it-yourself project. The hardest part was drilling the top scope mount holes (vise and drill press).....not for the faint of heart, but as luck would have it they came in true and straight. The pillar bedding was simple enough. A welder friend did the bolt handle and with a little dremel grinding and polishing looks very nice. I haven't decided on the front and rear sights fate. I may just leave them alone. The original bluing on the barrel and receiver is acceptable for now.

It has turned out to be a satisfactory shooter with the Czech ammo.

Left target 300 meters holding 5" high of center. Right target 200 meters closest zero I have dialed in so far.

Excellent groups! Nice work. I have a similar one I just put into a Boyd's Featherlite. I still have a little work to do before I get it out to the range.

It was fun to do this but getting the scope mount was the biggest problem until one of the site sponsors became the Canadian distributor. This took all the issues away. Thanks to Westrifle for for investing the time and money to do this.
