my 9mm brass is wrinkling

I just got a lee press and I am having trouble with my brass wrinkling when I seat the bullet. I cast my own boolits I use a lee 356 125 grain ww lead. I was making some dummy rounds so I did not lube and size my boolits. When I seat and crimp the bullet the brass wrinkles at the base of the boolit. What could cause this? Is it because I did not size the boolit?

Yes. Until sized, the boolit is too large for the case mouth. Unless you flare the case mouth a lot/too much.

More info needed.. When you say wrinkling, is it crushing the brass?
BTW I reload .356" lead with Lee dies with no problems. Maybe a picture of the problem may help us figure it out..

It is crushing the case. I am trying to upload pics haven't figured it out yet!

Flare the case mouth only enough to allow the base of the bullet to enter without shaving. As for the crushing, you may be overcrimping too. It doesnt take much, just enough to remove the case flare once the bullet is seated.

I was trying to round the end of the case.

That is where you are going wrong. The 9mm uses a taper crimp not a roll crimp.

No it is not separate. The seat and crimp are together.

9mm does not roll crimp. As mentionned use just enough crimp to remove the flare and to grip the bullet lightly.

I have a set of carbide dies I'd be willing to part with. set/taper crimp all in one die.

Problem fixed. I was trying to roll crimp when I only had to taper crimp. Thanks everyone.
