I have almost finnished customizing a ruger 10/22 into what would be an Ultimate 10/22. Here are the photos:

I am not quite finnished tweakinig it yet, as I am going to head space, chamfer and jewel the bolt, replace the firing pin and pin it, do some hilight painting, stiffen the forend of the Hogue, bed the stock and pin the receiver at the rear trigger pin hole, put a bipod and rear monopod and a blackhawk cheek rest. I'll top it off with some buttler creek scope caps and I think that will be when I call her finnished.

Some of you will no doubt think it is excessive or maybe even a little mall ninja:ninja:, but I think it's awesome. If you don't like it:)jerkit:).....just kidding, thats all right by me, I just won't let you shoot it.:D

I had the Vol. comp / stabilization unit and i found it to be quite useless. Not only that but the carbon / lead buildup was incredibly bad. It made my barrel a ##### to clean, took it off after few trips to the range.

When I had ordered the rings, I ordered two sets, and when they came in I was just playing around and put all 4 on. I was curious as to what it looks like, and I know that spring powered air gun shooters sometimes use 4 rings, as well as some fifty cal. shooters use 4 as well. I kept all the scope rings on because I like the way it looks and it adds a little something. I know that the look is not for everyone, but I like it. I think that it gives the rifle a bit of an edge.

Lose two rings, paint the other ones black, and it looks good. Although, an 'ultimate' 10/22 deserves better glass. ;)

Seriously - adding scope rings for 'looks'? That's a new one for me. I think it looks lame with the two unneccessary ones... but that's okay if you won't let me shoot it.

Let us know what sort of accuracy you are getting.

I had a 10/22 for years and it was fun but I got sick of not knowing what to blame for the POI changes from day to day. I had cheap glass on it and all else was factory.

I have been debating whether or not to give it a new barrel and some trigger work or not. From what I have seen it would be costly.

What is your total cost input so far???

This is my idea of the ultimate 1022 . 2 of mine & my Remington

Great job on your 10/22, it looks like you put a lot of time, thought and expense into building something that uniquely personifies you.:) The greatest thing about 10/22s is that you can make them into almost anything that you can imagine: a pseudo AR-15, AK-74, HK G36, Dragunov, bullpup, Tommy gun, Gattling gun, MG-42, folding backpacker, thumbhole bullseye shooter, stainless cabin dweller, child-size plinker, gopher decimator, etc. Aesthetics is subjective and as varied as people's opinions: the traditionalists will always abhor the synthetic stocks and tacticool accessories; the target shooters will eschew anything that is not with a bedded and indexed bull barrel and Bentz chamber; the rodent hunters will disregard any unnecessary accoutrements; and the children will happily shoot anything...;)

Shoot it, tweak it, and enjoy it!:D

Well .... it isn't exactly Bill-Ruger stock. I stripped my 10/22 not long after I bought it 25yrs ago. I polished the sides and friction surface of the moving parts on an oilstone - the flats on the hammer, the sides of the trigger and sear and the sides of the firing pin. Less roughness and reduced thicknesses. That's all I did inside. I found an extended buttplate and an extended mag release from an ad in a gun magazine before the Internet was declassified. A total of about $40 in extras.

All feedback is appreciated

...:dancingbanana:and it looks good. Although, an 'ultimate' 10/22 deserves better glass. ;)

Yeah, I know that it deserves better glass, but that scope is decent enough for now until I can spend some money on a Falcon tactical scope. I kinda blew my budget on the rest of the gun.

I think it looks bad, no offense, not my thing at all, why didn't you order them in black though?

No offense taken. Like I said, it is not for everyone. I think it gives it a solid mechanical look. I ordered them in silver because I wanted something that was a little different then everyone else, I am doing a black with silver for highlights. I am also going to paint the flutes in the barrel silver, put black accents on the compensator and black in the trigger recess. Everyone has rings that match the scope and base....I wanted it to pop.

i love the look of 4 scope rings , i have them on my encore in 7mm , and 50cal bp
but for a .22 it is over kill , but i would still do it lol

Thank you for that, I knew that I wasn't the only one out there!!:dancingbanana::D

Total cost would be around....$900-$1000. The only thing I am going to change eventually is to put either a hand built stock on it, or a B&C Synthetic Tactical/Varmint or a TREX.

I have not really had a chance to get serious with my accuracy testing as I am not a member of a gun club, and the days I have gone out shooting has been more for fun than serious. Plus laying in the snow, shooting off bags is too cold and wet for me.

I am going to wait until spring to really put the gun through its paces, but so far she shows fantastic potential. I am confident in saying that this gun can shoot better than I can

#1BCshooter, I like your rifles as well. The laminate thumbhole stocks are something that I can appreciate on someone elses gun, but wouldn't put one on my guns, unless I painted them a solid color. What glass do you have on your guns? They look great on your rifles.

4 scope rings kinda looks....well it reminds me of those roll bars in the 70's that had 4 tubes.....

I was going for a solid look, thanks!!
