Just thought I would Share.

So for the last 5 years I have held a fun rimfire competition at my house every summer. It started with a few of us at work chirping each other about our skill set and turned into an annual event with experienced to first time shooters joining in. This year we had a $5 5 shot K.Y.L challenge for the more experienced shooters with the winner taking home the pot. For the main competition we shot a fun target with different values for each object and only being able to shoot each object once. I was able to set up my 7 year old son at a shorter table so he could shoot on his own. (He has joined in for a few years now but I would have to aim and help him and he would pull the trigger...lol) He was super proud of himself that he got to shoot in his words "the big guy gun" all by himself and managed to beat his 16 year old sister...lol. My middle son 3d printed the trophies for me as well. Everyone brings a dish, This year we had Pulled Pork, Meatballs, homemade pretzels, baked beans, chips, desserts and all in all it was another good year with the added bonus of my oldest son and I taking 1st & 2nd place.

Yeah thats awesome! Cool trophy and bragging rights is icing on the cake. I do something similar at my farm. The kids like it more, which is great and a fun way to introduce new people to the sport.

These are the kind of things that introduce new people to the shooting sports. Doesnt mean they have to fire a gun but company for others that come with shooters! Soon discover its not all evil like portrayed by Justhim Turdeau. Good on you and looks like all had fun and a great summer meal and event. Cheers Chris. Love the fact your youngest was able to use THE BIG BOY GUN and the trophies were produced by your older boy. NICE

Love it! Being introduced to shooting sports as a youngster helped send me down the rimfire rabbit hole and I wouldn't have it any other way :d Whenever you want me to take your money invite me up for the next shoot ;) I'll bring beer to make up for it :)

Thanks Guys! It was a good time. I'm always surprised how well some of the first time shooters do. I always supply a gun and ammo for anyone who wants to shoot. We shoot about 40 yards, some years it's a normal target and others I do something like this with the intent being that as long as you can hit the paper you might still get a decent score with some luck on your side. Not everyone shoots and that's OK, as mentioned it just a good atmosphere for people to see we are not a bunch of nuts and really is an activity that almost anyone can take part in.

I never really thought about it either but the memories part of it is very true. I remember going to a trap shoot with my dad that the mens group of the church put on. I was 12 or 13 and had my most prized possession at the time. A single shot Baikal 12 gauge that I had saved up for and bought brand new. After I burned through the hundred or so rounds we brought one of the guys gave me another box and a half of shells and I was in disbelief that someone would give ammo away and so happy I could keep shooting. Im 45 now and that is still one of my most vivid memories from that time in my life.

Looks like a lot of fun!

PS those trophy profiles look like here should be considerable interest from the gals in being straight shooters.

LMAO!!!.......I was waiting for a comment like that.....while gathering pictures to post I noticed that in the group photo which instigated the picture of the CAD data to be added.......

Awesome! We do a version of this at the farm. I bring out the 10/22 with a red dot and have the city liberal girls that come visit with the boys, dinging away at resetting targets. Make shooting safe and fun for newbies and they will pick up the sport and become allies!

Just fantastic. I try to host a similar day with the aim of showing newbies the safe and fun world of target shooting. I like that you have grown into a more organized outing and it gives me some ideas for the next one
