My AR DOESNT suck at all! - follow up.

The WC735 recipies you used,...was it the load or the actual powder itself that contributed to the issue?been using it with 55gr FMJ's with no issues,but if it's a problem with heavier bullet weights I'd like to know,,,

I tried the WC735 behind several weights of projectile, they all worked poorly for me. Mind you, I know several guys shooting SR that have no problem with it. I think it would be fine for .55's, and plan to use it myself behind .55's for shot range stuff. But I'll stick with another powder out past 100.

Interestingly enough, I only chose the WC735 because it was what I had in my lockup. I normally used Varget but couldn't find any more.
After talking with you I did go find some RL15, and I must say it performs almost identical to Varget and I'm pretty happy with it so far.
 
Unless I'm reading this thread wrong, you said the windage and elevation variance was different, ie. the problem was more in elevation. That points to a problem that you appear to have not yet identified....

1) velocity variance due to powder volume or consistency
2) bullet weight variance
3) scope
4) play in upper/lower halves
5) mag bounce (this was all from prone, correct?)

Ect...?

It's unusual to have a vertical variance that isn't matched in windage. As a matter of fact, usually the opposite pattern shows up, unless you have pretty dead air, at which point the rifle's accuracy limits tend to make a circular pattern.

Again, I know you found something that will shoot, but I'm not so sure you ID'ed the problem for future reference.....

Went through most of the items you describe, with the exception of weighing each and every projectile for variance. Yes, the problem was more in elevation, which is why I thought it was the Elcan, but it was also evident to some degree in windage. Maybe I didn't make it clear enough in my original posts. What i think was happening was the bullet was sort of cavitating in a big circle as it went to the target. Just yesterday I was trying a new load with 24.2 gr of RL15 and the same 75gr bullets. Guess what. Same issue came back... not as bad mind you, but there were some wild shots. From prone too. I'm going to back it down to 24gr again and go with that. It seemed to be the best load so far.
