Hello everyone,

I got this AR a couple of months ago and am just finishing up the set-up on her. I haven't even got a chance to shoot it yet

I was going to ask for some opinions on the red dot sight, it isn't high enough up. What should I use to raise it up a bit? I am assuming I will want the red dot at the tip of the front sight.

I think I would like something like this at 5:34 http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ijJMES0aY2M

Where could I buy that?

Here is another couple newbie questions...

I noticed when you move your head while looking into the optic, the dot also moves around. So how do you shoot accurately??

I know I will have to raise the sight, but when you see people put a red dot sight on top of a carry handle doesn’t this make your shot an inch or so lower than where you are actually looking?

Wherever the dot is, that's where your round will end up.

You don't need a co-witness for your red dot: it just has to be sighted in properly like you would any other scope...

It will move within the scope but will stay fixed on the target. Put the rifle on a solid surface so it wont move then move your head around the dot will stay on target, now keep in mind some scopes have paralax error, so the most accurate point is in the center and some small shifting may be noticed as the dot moves towards the edge of the scope.

When selecting mounts for AR flat tops, you are aming for ~1.5" center line of scope with respect to the rail surface.

Okay I think I have found what I would like to use:

Has anyone tried this? Where is the best place to get them?

nice set up, Which Quard Rail did you go with? where did you get it? How much?

Sorry I'm so nosey, I'm looking at getting a quad rail right now

Hi there, the quad railing came with the gun. It is made by "Troy Industries". No idea how much the retail value of them is. But it seems to be very good quality. I just love it.

Eotech 512 Hologram sight is your solution! ;)

The open holographic reticle pattern is designed to be instantly visible in any lighting conditions.

Instinctive to center regardless of the shooting angle, it stays in view when sweeping an engagement zone or when engaging moving targets.

The HWS delivers an impressive ten million to one (10,000,000:1) bright to low reticle contrast ratio, ensuring that the reticle is always visible. The reticle can be easily seen against targets in full sunlight - even in desert or tundra environments, and in moonlight.

The standard 65 minute of angle ring has four alignment ticks and a 1 M.O.A. aiming dot.

Once you go Eo, you never go back to any cheap red dots! :p

Actually I got the red dot sight for free from a friend, one of these days I will put something really nice on her. Like an eotech or aimpoint. But I am a little short on cash so until then I will use what I've got. And actually this Tasco red dot sight seems pretty good, I am not expert but it has 14 different setting for the red dot. And it is very clear and mounts nicely.

I am actually a little scared by the price of ammo too... and I hear its going up?? :runaway:

price going up for some types of ammo is due to the "commodity" pricing the the base metal that goes into making the ammo...so I'm told.

Was just at P&D today and am thinking about getting a CZ858 since the ammo is priced at $199 for just over 1,000 rounds...

Gor for the Bushnell Holoscope,,, civilian version of the Eotech, by the same manufacturer for way less money.

I use riser or see-through mounts on 4 tac rifles I've got. I want to be able to use the iron sights "just in case". Every good plan has a contingency plan. Not that I'm paranoid , but I even have a spare tin foil hat (you know, to stop them reading your mind);)
