Well my 102 arrived today. Kinda bittersweet. Thanks sfrc for getting these to us and for the AR armorers wrench thrown in.
So knew i would have to bubba my raptor charging handle to fit (the factory one is a cheese grater)

Initially i was worried since mags were tight as a tiger and were tight ass a nun. I have m3 5/20's and it came with a m3 5/10

had to take the dremmel to the magpul trigger guard to get it to fit "properly " and now mags drop free yay!

Dust cover is too small but stays closed unless i play with it for what it's worth and i got the new old style hand guard with the unusable sling qd point- not impressed.

Magpul miad doesn't fit with either back straps. I'll try the other one i have otherwise out comes the dremmel again

The factory trigger though wasn't as bad as i expected was replaced with a SSA-E

factory bcg is rather rough, plus the firing pin retainer was bent up and had to replace it with a spare one. My brownells one arrived yesterday and it was a big improvement plus the pof roller cam smoothes the action out.

Installing the gen 3 prs stock was a minor headache. Had too use the sanding drum to ever so slightly open up were the stick meets the castle nut. The threads seem to be taller. Then i had to trim approx 1/8" of the eggs of the buffer tube with a hacksaw. Then the front edge of the portion of the tube that sets the adjustment used the sanding wheel to remove the tiny bit of material blocking the tention/qd port of the stock then it fit like a glove.

Tried to replace the mag release with a spare diemaco one but i can't seem to get mine to extend far enough to remove it like on a ar15 so I'm stumped there.

Added a mdt mlok rail segment to mount the atlas.

On looks alone the factory muzzle device has to go. Might just go with a good ol A2 style device.

Lastly i mounted the fde aero precision ultralight mount and my cabelas 4-16 ffp covenant scope.

Got a bunch of hornady 147gr fmj and a bunch of Sierra 165gr hpbt hunting rounds. Brass has been sized and ready to be loaded. Cant wait to take this into the wild

I'm confused as to how you got the older handguard and dust cover as some people have gotten the newer ones on guns that were received weeks ago. Is it because its an FDE?

Here is the side by side of the bolt carrier groups. The brownells has very good tension between the bolt and the carrier plus has double oring and extras spring in in the extractor. The extractor itself is beefier and is mp marked. The bcl one baaarely supports the weight of the carrier and finish isn't nearly as nice. Note the bcl uses a spring on the firing pin where the brownells one doesn't.

Will POF roller cam pin fit in BCL BCG without modifications ?

I am really interested in the stripped upper/lowers that are for sale. I really like the idea of building my own non-restricted 308 AR that I can use as both my general fun and hunting rifle. Just that I am literally starting in this and totally lost whether to bite on them or not.

Fair comment, but the gas key rides inside the channel of the cocking handle; it doesn't wear on anything.

Being previously NEA I can see trepidation of wear items, so it makes sense to have around spares like an entire bolt or extractor.
I just don’t get the desire to change out the entire BCG.

I dissasembled my OEM BCG yesterday following a 20rd shoot.. had the brownell's next to it, decided to weigh various parts... the Brownells bolt carrier was lighter than the NEA. The NEA bolt, however, was lighter than the Brownells. We're talking a couple of grams here and there, but there is a difference.

Pics and weights to follow...

I'm waiting for my Brownell's titanium AR308 firing pin to arrive and see the actual weight difference along with any change in firing impressions.

I haven't tried the Brownell's BCG in the 102 yet, still waiting for that go/nogo gauge. :(

Yes even though $1750 is a lot of money for what this thing is, at least they have that lifetime warranty... For guys who haven't got their guns yet, I'd run the factory one first and if there's an issue, make BCL replace it... $400 CDN + shipping for the Brownells is a lot of money to spend for a completely new BCG on a new gun.

I might have one of the higher round counts through one of these (about 600) and the stock BCG looks normal, and the factory bolt ran 100% with all kinds of brass. I only just changed the bolt out be cause Fulton Armory REALLY wanted to confirm headspace at the factory with the new barrel and gave me a deal.

I don't understand all the concern over milling marks on areas of components that don't need polished or tight fit tolerances on them to operate. Not that BCL would divulge it, nor Brownells for that matter, but the cost to manufacture each is going to be different and will be lower for the BCL unit because they've optimized the areas that NEED mirror or tight machine finishes and those that don't. I can understand that one is prettier than the other but to just crap on the one that isn't pretty is a little impractical. From the sound of it, they both shoot well, so, what's the problem here? The only difference I see is that one was included in fully functional firearm, the other had to be purchased for a few hundred bucks, to do the exact same job.

To call one out as terrible because it has milling marks on non-critical surfaces is missing the point.
