My bcl102 is finally together

lol, the point of these guns is that they are Lego for men!! ;)

I think the problem is that guys are using lego meant for a "new" platform - i.e. the AR-10/15's. There's no OLD lego around (or very little of it) to fit the AR-102 platform.

I think the fact that some AR-10/15 lego fits this old format is a bonus. To complain about it is unreasonable as it was never intended to fit. If they made it all fit, the fuzz would have deemed it an AR-10/15 and there's just no fun in that.

That’s a whole other argument - where it could (perhaps should) be argued that the current crop of AR-10 are stand alone rifles and not based on the AR-15.

AR15 is LEGO for men. The AR10 isn’t. It took me two years to get all the parts for my Armalite AR10 SASS. Plus I have rifles that don’t even use the same mag systems for AR308 and AR10. It’s only been recently that the AR308 popularity has soared with tons of companies now making them. Before it was always a pain trying to upgrade them as there were always compatibility concerns.

I plan on changing as little as possible when I get mine. That bCG might not be pretty but it looks functional. I’m more interested in the specs than the finish. That being said I will be choked if I get an old handguard with non functional qd spot or the “feature” rich dust cover.

lol Epoxy, youre probably going to get it, my gun should be here this week and I have a feeling im going to get the old handguard even though the new one was advertised months ago. I'm most concerned with accuracy though and that may be another problem

Fair comment, but the gas key rides inside the channel of the cocking handle; it doesn't wear on anything.

Being previously NEA I can see trepidation of wear items, so it makes sense to have around spares like an entire bolt or extractor.
I just don’t get the desire to change out the entire BCG.

I'm sure it works just fine. However, it shows poor craftsmanship to me. If they don't show attention to detail and refinement on something as obvious as that, what are they hiding in other spots?

You’re buying a Canadian version of a DPMS g1 only non restricted. It’s 100 percent hobby grade. Until they release the specs I assume the worst. Expect 6061 billet along with any and all cost saving corners. Consider anything above that to be a bonus.

I actually overall like what I see, although there are a few stumbles. That being said I know I’m buying the lowest end AR10 and contrary to what others have stated the price does reflect this. A low end DPMS is about $1500 with a high end KAC being $6100 along with everything inbetween. Guys from the AR15 world think $1750 is expensive. However in the AR308 world it’s the entry level price. At least it’s not billed as high end with a high end cost only to discover hobby grade internal parts. It is priced accordingly and not promising to be something it isn’t.

I’m third pre sale so I’m hoping it’s the new handguard with ambi charge handle. But who knows..
Fingers crossed for good luck that yours is excellent.

Give 168 with 44.3 to 44 grains of varget a try. 168 federal gold and 175 off the shelf ammo may be too slow to hit the accuracy node. I would also try 167 lapua off the self match ammo. Don’t let the testing thread get you down. They ignored the work the various militaries have already done with these type of rifles. 4064, varget and rl15 (temp sensitive) are known AR308 powders for 168/175 loads. If it doesn’t shoot any of the above then I will rebarrel mine. I have said the above since the first pre sale. Two posters have had groups which appeared in the .5 to .75 moa, 5 rounds at 100 yards using the above. The US military spent tons developing the m118LR with Federal. Federal gold came from that development. Federal gold is equivalent to 43 of varget. So it’s likely a bit slow for the 18.5” 1:10 twist barrel. No point reinventing the wheel. I’m optimistic I can get it to shoot fairly easily. If not I will know within one range trip.

I was under the impression Federal gmm 175 was MK316 mod 0 and was just about to buy some for testing, but if gmm is slower I guess since it'll be the same brass and I can get gmm primers and SMK 175 gr ill just add more 4064 right?

That’s the latest designation and yup pretty much federal
Gold. The earlier versions often had more velocity. Seeing as we aren’t shooting in the desert and aren’t shooting M14 rifles we can look at the previous faster versions of the round to see where we can go. Yup a little more 4064, RL15 or varget should do the trick. Disclaimer: load at your own risk, start lower and work your way up.

If I can’t get it to shoot doing the above then i’ll Be getting mine rebarreled. However I suspect it will shoot as expected. Keeping in mind of course that it’s not a heavy bull barrel so heating up will have to be kept in check. Fortunately others have used the above formulas and had excellent results. Takes some of the risk out of it.

I plan on referring to a gen 3 version as the BCL102 Ocelot. Cooler than “catamount “ which they are now calling it. I think we should make something like that stick. Would drive Ryan crazy but still funny. Maybe gen 4 we can call the Lynx?

Thanks for all the replies guys. The real test will come when i get it on the bench and do some load development. As for replacing the factory bcg, it cost me 200cdn to my door. I keep a full bcg inc spare Daniel defence bolt in my range kit so if it means i get a "prettier" bcg and a spare bolt then I'm fine with that.
