My best and most innovative idea yet.

As a tube is stretched, the diameter is reduced. Just heat the 270 barrel till its glowing, then use a winch or come-alongs to stretch the barrel out a few inches. Stuff a caliper in there and stop when it hits .243.

I think you're on the verge of a break-through; with a slight problem. Stretching the barrel will slow down the rifling twist, perhaps to an extent that could effect stability. Fear not, there is a solution for that. While the barrel is red-hot simply slap a pipe-wrench on the muzzle and twist. This opens up the possibility of both a tapered bore and gain twist rifling. There is the risk of unthreading the barrel which could be minimized by hammering the receiver ring flat before starting.

Just got back in and I have to say that your great ideas are what keeps me coming back to this forum. Foam, stretching/twisting barrels, cheese, duct tape, titanium sabot, Jägermeister (which I love) and so forth. Excellent.

Except Hoytcannon and his b!tching about some sort of man-crush. This displeases me. The cheese comment almost makes up for it. Almost.

Glad you appreciate all the good feed back 1899. Just gotta add one thing although Dogleg means well but I think a pipe wrench is a bit crude to use on a rifle. XL vise grips all the way.

After the stretching and twisting I just assumed that the barrel would be cut off to an appropriate length and re-crowned. That would remove the tool marks, and since a fresh crown is always desirable it would be like getting two birds stoned at once.

I knew Dogleg had been around collecting knowledge for quite a while, but this advice is real genius. Almost like glass blowing, but with steel.

I almost spit up a mouthful of Glenlivet when I read this. Bravo!

The simplest solutions are always best - simply grind the .270 stamping from the side of the barrel and restamp it with the proper stamping and do the same with your boxes of bullets and reloading manuals and you will have the most powerful .234 around. Your friends and neighbors will all look with wonder at you.

hmm.. you are very clever.
lets see, usually you put on devcon with a putty knife. so you're going to place the precision dowel (i.e. not warped) first perfectly in the center, then apply devcon.
how are you going to accomplish that? a putty knife?
why not cover the precision dowel with devcon and then insert it, center it and wipe off the excess.
better yet, use drill rod instead of a dowel.
I wouldn't let the devcon set though, drive it out immediately.
If you do it just so, you can rifle it at the same time.

Chamber it in .234 x .460 wbymag c-fbmi Godzilla's Emperor Penguin's Rampage, there Mr. 1899.
Have always wondered how a 24" long HP projectile would impact into Antarctic big game feathers at 3800 fps !.

Bottom's UP mate.

Not B!tching... just trying to be a mate and protect your tender heart... this could be a full time job... you seem to be attracted to the "hard, bad boys..."

A safer bet would be something softer and squishier.... like Kamlooky...

This is my idea, but maybe you'd implement it for me. Neck the 270 up to 30 cal and call it the "30 Andy". You have the barrel that you could send away and get bored out to 30 cal.

As for load data, I see data for a "30-06". The "30 Andy" round is radically different than it (and therefore superior), but you could use that load data until I develop some.

Just checked out the video. Wholly s*****t that is some thing it really puts down a fire, pretty perfect for they built it for. Now my demented mind got to thinking what if they pumped jet fuel in stead of water and what if they hit the after burners ? Man O man! That would burn Cain!!
