Well I bought a Savage Model 12 BR a few months ago. I have been waiting for a while for my Sightron scope to arrive in the mean time I bed the action then made sure to torque the screws to 40 in lbs. I was dying to shoot this thing so I borrowed a set of rings and a Tasco 6-24 varmint scope just so I could at least develop some loads. I used Norma brass, I uniformed the flash holes and deburred them as well as uniformed the pockets. Of course trimmed all to length then sorted by weight + or - 1 grain. This was the first time I tried any good loads in it so I was only loading 3 of each to find the close to sweet spot. I will load 5 of each now that I know where I should be going.

Shooting from 100 Yards
This is the result of a 168g Hornady BTHP seated .008" from lands with 44.6 grains of Varget lit by a CCI BR2 primer.

This one was 44.9 Grain charge I know I pulled the very last shot slightly to the right, I knew as soon as it went off I messed up.

I am very happy to get some groups like this. I will have to move out to 200-300 later to see how they do. But looks like I am going to load 5 of each starting at 44.5 - 45 going up in 1 tenth now.

A bit sloppy really, the hole isn't quite round....

(just teasing of course! I've never been able to shoot a group in the "1s", which you have done here. Well done!)

WOW, that is fantastic shooting for ANY rifle let alone a factory rig.

How many rds per group?

Hopefully, it all stays together at 200 and 300yds - use wind flags.

Who says a Factory Savage can't shoot in the 1's?????

In fact, you were 3 thou away from shooting in the ZERO's - which is absolutely amazing.

You got a shooter.

They were only 3 shot groups. I am going to be loading 5 shot loads in a few minutes. Hopefully I won't have to stain as much with scope when you get me my Sightron scope in :)

Thanks for the replies I am pumped to try this again. I have no exposure to any kind match shooting and I have never seen groupings like this, never mind me making them. Beginners luck?

The beauty of a rig like yours is adding 2 more shots will not change much of anything...

Unless you pull a shot or the wind gets you.

The fight for consistency begins.

Yes, the Sightron will make aiming alot easier as the image will be much clearer and the magnification higher. Hopefully, we will start to see some new inventory shortly.

Although what you have now obviously is not holding you back. Who needs a March?

Congrats on the rig, your loading and most importantly....

YOUR SHOOTING :)
