Will, Like most Bear hunts....Not to much of a story, Been working in an area that usually holds some nice Bears, and today I was lucky enough to be packing the rifle. Saw this guy feeding in a nice grassy area and right away new he was a good one!! Tried to get video of the shot, but for some reason my camera took a dump right at the shot!! Oh will maybe next time!! Like to give a big thanks to couple guys I work with who have guided for Bear, these guys gave me the low down on how to do a skinning job right!!! Appreciated guys!!!
And here he is, he goes 6'8" and the skull green scores 19"1/16!!! Enjoy!!!

PS: Notice the scent blocker camo!!!!

Right on, nice bruin....

What did you take it down with?

Did it need a follow up shot?

Do you eat the hams, or do you possibly have one of those neighbours that you might give em too? Always interested in how the big fellas taste.

Shot him with my new Stevens 200 in 7mm Mag....First kill with it!!!:) I did put a follow up shot in him, he was down and out......but with these big guys...you can never be to carefull!! I was going to take the meat from this guy....but my daughter put a much younger.....and tastier bruin in the freezer earlier this spring, A good friend of mine wanted the meat so I gave it to him, The hide will be come a soft tann or a shoulder mount....not sure yet!!!!

Can you give a few more details? How long was the shot, did you have to stalk him or did you just catch him alongside the road, hop out and blast him? Oh yeah, what time was it? Morning or evening?

A 6'8" bear with a 19" skull is plenty big...

Congrats!! :)

I can't see pics though. Settings on computers at 'work' block images!

The shot was at about 20-25yrds, not much stalking, spoted him about 300yrds along the road, as we got closer he bailed off, as we drove by I could see him just over the edge of the grassy opening, parked the truck about 150yrds down the road and walked the ditch line back and he was back in the opening feeding! The photos tell the rest!! Some may not think this as much of a hunt.......in BC baiting is illegal, so driving and spot and stalk are our choices!!!;)

Some don't get nice bear like that either. And at archery distance, no less! Bear is not easy prey. Kudos to you.

Nothing wrong with happening on a bear like that, then walking up on it, to get your shot off.

But uh, you still didn't mention if it was morning or afternoon. I just like to know that sort of stuff.

Oops!.....sorry about that! It was about 3pm, Sunny as hell.......with rain showers. It rained pretty hard in the morning, actually thought about not taking the rifle!!

Great looking bear, Congrats! Handloads or store bought and what type of bullet?

I shot him with Remington Core-Lokts, 140grn, factory ammo. I bought a few boxs of these to get it shooting and set up for spring Bear, when their used up I'll try to find a nice home load to feed it!!!:)

Thanks for the comments guys!! Appreciate it!!

Are bears tasty

That is one NICE bear!!! Too bad the commies in the Peoples' Republic of Ontario banned the spring hunt.

Of all wild game, black bear is my favourite. the only problem with them is that you have to gut them IMMEDIATELY and skin them ASAP. They are so chunky that they overheat quickly and then they smell almost as bad as a cadaver. I always gut them withiin minutes of their going down, and skin them before hauling them out of the bush. It is a very tender, dark meat with no gamey taste. Enjoy!!

He looks damned good. Nice coat for being so late in the year, but then again, I really have no experience with bears to know when they start rubbing badly. Makes me want to get back out again.
