Now that the long gun registry will be joining the ranks of the Dodo I've decided to get back into Target Shooting. Since losing my guns in an unfortunate boating accident back in the late nineties(I THINK it was the late nineties?Maybe mid nineties?Oh well)I have been holding off on replacing any as long as the registry existed.
Prior to the accident, I had been a gun owner since i was 12. Never took a non-military safety course but have shot everything from 22 cal to 105MM and hardly killed anyone(Vietnam Vet). Only dealing I had with the beaurocracy happened while I was in Germany to defend the Fulda Gap for NATO and they brought in the FAC for restricted weapons in 77 I believe. My dad(insert appopriate expletive), who was storing my guns until I got back, dutifully toddled down to the cop shop and registered my M1 carbine that I had purchased out of someone's trunk in 67 at a factory we were working at the time. Three years later i get back from overseas and he tells me what he did and that I need an FAC just to move it to my home!
That friggin FAC problem would surface every time I moved. Wasn't hard to renew, just a pain in the ass to have to do. Finally got fed up and sold it to someone else in the mid eighties?Maybe the late eighties?Whatever. So that gun went into the gun registry even though I no longer owned it. Just another example of its uselessness.
So now I want to become a gun owner again so I found this site. I intend to do my research here before purchasing. I see I needed to come here first as I am coming accross numerous references to secret documents like POL, PAL etc. Can't find the full names anywhere(hence the secret remark). Do you guys have a list of abbreviations and their meanings anywhere? And if not, why not?
Don't newbies ever ask that question? If it exists, point me there and I'll go as soon as I publish my apology
