I recently purchased a Black Dog Machine 10/22 50 round drum mag from Questar. My initial review of the quality was excellent. It looks well built and can be taken apart for cleaning. Only thing I didn't like was the fact that it didn't have steel lips.

In the last couple of days I grabbed some American Eagle, Dynapoint White Box, Dynapoint Black Box, Winchester SuperX, Winchester 333s and Remington Golden Bullets out of my safe and shot 200 rounds of each brand through my new Black Dog Machine 50 round 10/22 drum mag.

All six of these brands shoot fine in my rifle when I use my Butler Creek steel lips. I have tuned my 10/22 to be ultra reliable. I installed the latest Kidd Black Bolt with the "Black Diamond" coating and a Dlask 12" heavy barrel. The bolt includes the Kidd extractor. So all this needs to be taken into consideration when reading my review.

The bad news about the Black Dog mag is that while all these brands shoot great with my Butler Creek steel lips they didn't perform the same in the Black Dog mag.

The good news is that I found a brand that was to my liking. It was actually the only one that I could get a full 50 rounder to shoot flawlessly.

The same bullets that are recommended for my Advantage Arms .22 Glock conversion kit won the contest hands down. Remington Golden Bullets.

After shooting 100 rounds without one malfunction using the Remington Golden Bullets I tried to purposely get the gun to jam. The best I could do was get one jam per mag while shooting two more full mags. Very impressed! This part of my range report was also done in a very cold range with -20 degree weather outside and the heat off in the range.

The following videos display the results I received on average for each particular brand. I even took videos of the two mags using Remington Golden Bullets that I purposely tried to jam.....

Hope you enjoyed my review. I would recommend this mag. It blows away those horrible Promag 50 round drums. :puke:

Nice job cbabes.
I like the way you can actually see the spent shells ejecting and deflecting in different directions.
I went to purchase some Golden Bullets recently at Bass Pro and the guy at the gun counter told me to stay away from them as he considered them "junk".
It just goes to show ya... one mans junk is another mans treasure. :D

awesome man - feels good when it runs smooth!

I've got to do the same thing with my P226 .22lr conversion, it also needs a few rounds to break in and smooth out but I'm looking forward to finding the perfect combo

Funny you mention that. A guy at Bass Pro told me the same thing. I thought he might have wanted to hoard them himself because I knew they ran flawlessly in my Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit.

I have seen this ammo sold out at Bass Pro many times so maybe he had an angle or was just clueless. Probably just clueless. :p

Sure does. And the accuracy is awesome as well. Makes a big difference when you lean on the table. :p Just had one hole when I was done. I think I took a pic or video of the target. Have to check when I get home and post it.

I bought some cci mini mags, maybe its just me but I don't feel a noticeable difference in recoil? they look a little nicer as they are less waxy than bulk 22, but other than that meh. Those winchester dynapoints that we got at CT together worked just as good in my case
