My Bren (DEWAT)

Well, here's a quick peek at my Bren....

It's a 1940 Inglis Mk 1 (or at least some of it is!)

Here's some of the welds...

Here you can see some more....and the gouge in the barrel.

The other side...you can see that the lower is welded onto the frame...

These welds were dressed a bit....still not the prettiest.

The rather less than perfect picture I took of the DP marking on the rear of the receiver....

It's a ####-and-click....here's the bolt to the rear....

One of the MANY "DP" markings on it. It appears to be DP 21 for most of them....

Welds at the front of the lower, holding it into place....

Welds at the back of the pistol grip....nicely tidied up!

The barrel is nicely welded from the inside....it will never move again.

And here you can see the 45 degree angle on the bolt-face...

Here you can see the "DP" stamp on the lower a bit better...

Well, here's a quick peek at my Bren....



It's a 1940 Inglis Mk 1 (or at least some of it is!)

It is a mk1 upper back with a mk2 upper front. The lower is a later mk1, although the buttstock is a mk2 (which was a post war replacement as mk1 parts became unobtainable). The bipod is also a mk2.

The 4 digit number on the upper is likely a transfer of the lower number. The DP21 would have been the uppers serial number.

Even with the mixmaster of parts, they are still a beautiful thing.

Interesting Bren, looks like it's got the non flared flash hider and the carry handle assembly is not ventilated? Is this very early production Bren or does it just have a MKII carry handle assembly?

It was not that mahy years ago (1980s) that you could walk into Winnipeg Supply Hardware in Winnipeg and buy a converted auto bren with a case of mags for $350

Something like 8000 were left behind at Dunkirk.

this is a good idea, they do not seem to be on the prohib list by name, and mags are still pretty easy to get, someone send norinco a set of drawings!
