I am waiting for this beastie to arrive, hopefully Monday. The write up between the photos has a little bit of truth, but well padded. Yes there was an 1841 experimental smoothbore Brunswick made, but it didn't have a 36" barrel. Bottom photo is the evolution of the 1st model Brunswick Rifle.

Are you assuming that the rifle you purchased from the Nepal cache is one of the trials rifles??? I thought these were made up for Nepal without the rifling for ease of manufacture and operation. Many arms of that period were made without the rifling as the thinking was....give them an inferior rifle to what the Brits were issued and they would pose less of a threat. It surely is a piece of history. I hope it is shootable as that would make the old girl come to life.

Interesting and timely post because I just picked up one of these at Bud Hayne"s without knowing what it was. Mine has the 36" smoothbore barrel in .69 caliber (or there abouts) but no bayo. Apart from the serial number (346) appearing in four different places there is no other markings on this gun and I've been over it with my finest toothed comb. I suspected Eastern origin or cheap knock-off as these numbers are not stamped but done free hand. I'll try and get photos up in the next day or so. Thanks for the post,

I know it is a Nepalese musket. It is one of the ones purchased by IMA and sold in the U.S. The part about the "Trials Rifle" or 1841 experimental smoothbore is a bit of fluff used by the seller to enhance the musket. The only markings on it are the three digit serial number, 484 in Hindi.
