My Canadian Tire Find.

So this morning I picked up a 1942 at wholesale sports on sale I got it for $144. This is the gun I'm going to use for my AA build. I have another question for you guys... My barrel on this gun looked really good. It's why I chose the one I did over the other. I got it home and started cleaning it and after I took it out of the stock I noticed there are markings on the top of the barrel that look way to modern to be from 1942. There is zero cosmoline inside the barrel. Is it possible that this is a brand new barrel? Is that something that happens? Sorry if this is a stupid question I'm not to knowledgeable when it comes to milsurp. Thanks guys.

It could be a new barrel, they would replace any parts that where needed to bring the gun up to specs. The lack of cosmoline doesn't mean much as it may have been cleaned prior to your buying it.

If the new marks are laser etched "made in Russia" and caliber I wouldn't worry. These are required for Russian export. These Russian (Molot?) rifles were cleaned of cosmoline before export. They typically have red primer (seal) residue on the bolt face which show they were recently test fired, but not cleaned. They come 2 in a cheap cardboard box with the bayonets and bolts tossed in without packing. That's why the stocks are typically beat up pretty well. Perfectly functional though....
