My Cno7 .22 Build Update page 4.

Please guys tell us more about these rifles. I have one but other then shooting it as a cadet, know very little about the nuts and bolt of it. Done the google search but really not much out there. I think we need a sticky like the DCRA rifles. What say you?

A lot of the Cno7's out there have been put together from parts. Many have out of index barrel installations including tool marks on the barrel. One I had had sights that didn't line up when I received it.

I took it to my gunsmith as he has the proper tools. I watched him crank it in and make the sights line up.

There is a lot of force involved.

It would be easy to ##### the receiver and or the barrel with the wrong tools. Not worth it IMHO.

The C No7 barrel band for the front sight is not profiled for the bayo lugs as is the No4 band and is very tough to find. I used a No4 band and secured it in place with a set screw thru the bottom into the barrel. It is covered by the front sight guard and doesn't show.

Ya thats what some one did to the front sight holder on mine. It had the PH5C rear and a tunnel front sight on a #4 front sight base. I have the proper sight base to put on but unfortunately the set screw split. So a few minute job is now gonna take a whole lot longer.

Good to see another C No7 being assembled Greyman! I have 3 in my collection so far. The one with the 5C sight, I purchased from a member here and was assembled from parts at some time on a scrubbed serial number 1944 receiver. I don't have the history on the build or who did it, but it was done very well and is a sweet shooting rifle with a brand new LB barrel. I am sure you'll be well pleased with yours once it's done. My other one in the photos is an original 1946 in excellent shooting order, while my other one( not pictured) in process of restoration is an original 1944. I love taking these out to the range for target shooting with my sons. They enjoy shooting them more than anything else in my collection. Best of luck with your project! You were very fortunate to find a barrel!

Hey goldidig, that a nice set you have there. I have a lead on a CNo7 Transit case as well that im hoping will work out. I remember seeing your add on the EE lookin for Cno7 parts. Did you ever track down the ones you were looking for?

Granite, why are the forends harder to find? Is it just because of them being full wood or is it because there special for the Cno7?

Greyman, I actually did find some of what I was looking for with my ad on CGN and I managed to find the rest of it locally through a few local fellow collectors. I have hoarded up some extra parts as well, in case I need them for another build or restoration some day down the road. If your lead on the transit case doesn't work out, I have a contact who has a pretty nice one( at a fair price) that I can put you in touch with if you'd like to send me a P.M..

So i got the barrel today and I was shocked. It is basically brand new, bore is like new with no wear at all. Same goes for the bluing. I mocked it up on the receiver and threw the wood on. Pics show what she looks like, very happy with it. I still need to get it torqued on for the sights but ill do that in a couple weeks.

Well done!
Incidentally, if you look at the photo of the breech of the No. 7 barrel, you will notice the extension that brings the barrel face back to the boltface. If a .303 barrel is being sleeved, it is necessary to replicate this extension. I've done it by making it part of the bushing that fills the .303 chamber before drilling and lining.

Hey goldidig, that a nice set you have there. I have a lead on a CNo7 Transit case as well that im hoping will work out. ...

I have salvaged CNo7 chest hardware that came off absolutely punk rotten wooden chests. The hasps and keepers are easy to clean up, the strap hinges are more often seized than free moving, the little slotted or combination Robertson slotted screws are usually not worth cleaning up.

$25 per set of hardware, $40 with the screws. And for a limited time only, because I can't do this all day, I will throw in a complete set of dividing blocks with genuine 1940's felt padding! PM me.
