Have been using 7-rounders in my Colt - and have been using them since I started shooting as a kid - but since getting some Mec-gar 8-rounders for the holidays, I've been having some issues.

Though the mags run flawlessly like their 7's, they seem to be forcing my slide lock up a little higher, making it nearly impossible to release the slide and return it to battery via the release. I understand that the magazine catch is cutout a little higher on the 8's, but does anyone know any fixes for this issue?

Thanks again. Hope everyone had a great holiday. Cheers.

Could just be the magazine. Perhaps try a Wilson 8 round magazine in it.
They have been the best magazines in all my 1911s and work well in my COLT SCG.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the 1911. It is probably the mags, I have had issues with mec-gar in my 1911's in the past. Wilson mags will probably solve you problems without having to swap out parts.

Shooting Star mags are top notch also.
Your mag issue might be 1 too many spring coils?
Does the problem persist with less than 8 rounds in the mags?

I've used other mags including Wilsons, older models didn't have the issue, newer ones do. The problem seems to have softened since working in the mags, but at this point I still can't return to battery with the slide release; I have to go over the top.

Good deal on Wilson Tactical Mags

Haven't tried these yet, but ordered 2 packs (two separate orders) as they seem like a great deal on the top of the line Wilson Magazines.:)

Try loading up the mags and leaving them that way for a few weeks to work in the springs. They will likely get better with time.

I'd agree with leaving them loaded for a week or two to develope a set, new mags are almost always a PITA until they've been abused a bit. I've even had the odd issue with new GI mags (including the same issue you're having).

Thank you all for the suggestions. Like I - and most - have assumed, it's a matter of spring tension. I have an uncle that used to cut springs, but I have never had to do that with any of the mags i've used in this pistol. Even with a few nights of abuse these mags have let up a little. Again, that's for the help.
