Hey all . In a week or so I will be receiving my ( new to me ) Cooey model 60 . Quite excited as I have wanted to get one for some time !
Do you find your model 60 likes any particular ammo better than others ?
I have a good deal of Winchester Dynapoint , Federal bulk , and Blazer ( all long rifle ) kicking around and was wondering if you wonderful people might have any information you've learned from using your own Cooeys . I've never shot short so any opinions on that are welcome too .
Would like to stock up on any ammo she might REALLY like prior to her arrival as I'm sure I will want to head out to the range ASAP after that .
It's a little silly of me being so giddy about such an inexpensive , common rifle coming in the post but I can't help myself . Have had an unusual attraction :bigHug: to these little guns for years and finally knowing one is coming , I am like a kid at Christmas lol .
Thanks all
Dana

the gun will pick it ammo. mine were all different manufacturers and some liked solids and others liked hollows. Try many different shells and take the one that operates the best.

Party pooper.
Asking for the end of the story before reading the book???????
Bite me.
Unwrap the little gal and go s'plore your own experieces with her,
then post the results for us all here............. :D

Lol , thanks all . I was just wondering as my 10/22 pretty much did what people said it would , hating cheap ammo until after 500ish , then shooting anything I put through her .
I'll try what I have and go from there . Looking forward to trying shorts as I have never shot one , but we will see . In my small town about the only thing you will always be able to get is federal 36gr , so I go to Edmonton every few weeks and buy a lot of what I like .
Thanks again
D

These rifles should be fed through the magazine tube and not fed individualy as that will eventualy damage the extractor.......Enjoy. The model was my first rifle to shoot.

Yes the Remington sucks ass in these guns as the brass deforms into the overly large firing pin hole.

Try getting a couple of different boxes of .22lr that are 'standard velocity'.
When you find one it likes it will really show.

Thanks all . I usually dont buy Remington ammo Dr. Snake and Winchsted so I'm good there but I have a truckload of Federal here , we'll see how that works . @lawn gnome , standard velocity aye ? I'll be trying that . Is that the 36 gr ?
Looking forward to shooting shorts for the first time too .
I think I'll be one of those people who keep buying .22 guns as I just love shooting them so much . The high cal stuff sits in the safe while the little guys go to the range with me . Been researching and can think of a few other classic .22s I am craving . I find them easy on the shoulder and the pocketbook and they are damn fun !
Thanks again guys !

I dont bother with other brands anymore as all of my 22s regardless of action love the CCI Minimags (solid point). No misfires or FTF ever. Even my very old BSA Martini does cloverleafs at 25m with irons. My CZ452 is dialed up to 100m as zero which is suggested by CCI. My CZ85Kombat loves them too. Eats them like candy. I just recently bought a case and left it at that. Levers, pumps, semis, bolts, not a single FTF so far and I have used nearly a brick so far. FWIW my 1022 was the first rifle to show me it REALLY liked these 22s.

No doubt from everything I've read on this site , the mini mags get the top reviews time and again ! Hard to get here though and with my 10/22 I can even use the cheap federal ( get maybe 10 ftfs out of a 525 box though ) . Hate to admit I'm cheap but , well....I'm cheap to a point . If something doesn't work to the point of annoying me I'll pay more , no problem . The federals pretty reasonable and I can buy it in town , so that's what I use in the 10/22 , but looking forward to try a bunch of stuff in the cooey .

Aside from reliability of feed and fire, I find the CCI Minimags to be anywhere from somewhat to way more accurate as well. I was surprised to see them suggest a zero of 100yds. I have shot 22 since the early 60s when Imperial was the undisputed ruler (if not mostly one of the ONLY brands). At that time the 22 was pretty much a 50yd round. My CZ452 will chew the bullseye out of a target at 100m all day long. I was surprised too. For 22 ammo its in the sweet spot. To get something even a bit better you have to spend a lot more money and its significantly better than most of the other stuff out there. Seems to be a lot cleaner too. After hundreds of rounds my barrel is still looking pretty nice. I stopped looking at other brands when I found these.

older guns like standard velocity ammo the cooey model 60(or model 600) is no exception

it will feed all .22 rimfire ammo from short, long,lr no problem and it will shoot most bulk stuff into a inch at 50 yards mini mags and the rest of the high velocity stuff dont do that well

I have heard this said yet I am shooting a BSA Martini made in the 30s and had a Cooey 39 and 64 that both loved them. What I have seen myself does not back that up.

I'll be trying everything suggested by all ( provided I can find it ) . Experimentation can be fun ! I just came from Canadian Tire , they had NOTHING in short , WTF ! I should be used to it as that store in this town just blows . Picked up 100 mini mags for 10$ . Going to check out the only other source for ammo here ( Walmart ....sigh ) , to see if they have anything in shorts .
After I recieve and take her apart for a check up I'll head out and see what she likes .
I haven't seen any bulk shorts out here , but hopefully I can at least find 50 packs .
Thanks again to all , can hardly wait to get it !

I have my Grandfathers Cooey 60. It shots anything. I need a new firing pin because the old one is punchering the casings. Other than that it's light and shoots well up to 50 yrds. For longer distances I switch to my Savage BTVS.
Congrates on the Cooey!
