My Cooey 82 .22CAL

So I'm new to CGN.
I bought a Cooey 82 about a month ago I tested it out at silver dale firing range.
The grouping was good but not at the place I wanted it lol.
Now It didn't come with the peep sight but I was wondering if anyone knows a good gun smith in the horse shoe area of Ontario.
I want to put a Tac-rail on it but it need to be drilled and tapped for it.

Also I'm looking for a SKS Russian or Ukrainian 7.62 in good shape with all sights for a good price, if anyone is selling or know where I can pick one up that would be great!

If your after a SKS just call any local gunshop, Lanz has them once and a while as does Al Simmons in Hamilton, there's also Fishing World you can call to see if they have any. Should set you back around $200 plus taxes give or take a few $.

I picked up a non-refurbed 54 Russian SKS from weimajack here on CGN.

An interesting first post...

A Cooey 82 in full military wood(*edit) is a "not-so-common" item. The thought of it getting drilled n' tapped at all will make some (put me on the list) kind of sad. That said, any gunsmith should be able to de-value it for you. It's yours' to enjoy, and enjoy it you should! You can expect 15-25 bucks for each drilled and tapped hole + cost of rail. (I feel like a fudd now...)

If you'd consider any other .22 for your project, don't hesitate to make me aware....I have about a dozen rimfires. Some are not "collectible", but shoot well and could be D&T'd without remorse.

Regarding SKS's...as suggested, peruse this site, and it's sponsors. Apply for EE access, and look in the milsurp section. They are pretty popular, and affordable rifles. I don't know how to determine a Ukrainian heritage, but Ruskies are in abundance.

OP (original poster) You didn't suggest you had a military, or other version of an '82...doesn't matter much, but not all 82's are 'surps

I agree. If it's a full wood model 82, I would be looking at something different to drill and tap. There are a number of people who wouldn't mind having a full wood model 82 and they would want it unmolested. I have seen these sell as high as $395.00 in nice condition. But it's your gun.
 
Is it military marked or commercial version? I've got a military marked 82.

No, the stock has had the "whale belly" portion of it removed. It is not a 39 or 55 stock. They do not taper like that. There is no such thing as a Cooey 43. Either way, the gun is not original so you might as well do what you want to do with it if you think it's worth the cost.

I agree though that gun is ripe for farting around with.
 
It actually appears to be the super-rare "calico-legged" model...

The stock looks pretty sleek...might be a 78, or an old 75. I had a sleek-stocked '75, but it was much rounder on the fore-end. Likely, as suggested it was shaped a touch along the way. Looks sharp, and it should shoot well.

I'm a touch curious how it fares after you slap optics on it.
