My CZ SP-01 Shadow...DRY FIRING???

Well I just got back from picking up my new and 1st gun..:D..Can't put it down..Gave it a good cleaning and put some new oil on it..Just one question,I got a snap cap with the gun with rubber inserts you can change,But after you fire the gun once it makes a hole in the rubber..So what I need to know is can I dry fire this gun without a snap cap in it???:confused:

So is it ok to dry fire? One guy says no and it sounds like some of you are dry firing you gun...Can someone give me a reason why we should not dry fire if its bad for the gun..My thoughts were that you should not fire a rim fire gun,and thats its ok to fire a center fire gun.

Ha, ha. I call major BS on that one. If dry firing the CZ75/SP-01/Shadow then mine should have broken long ago. I have over 8000 rounds through my gun and I have dry fired at least as much.
 
The snap cap I got with the gun has rubber inserts that get a hole in it after one fire..So if I fire it again the pin will go into that same hole and will not have any resistance.Thats why I'm asking the question..IS IT OK TO DRY FIRE.
 
Don't be a cheapo ! Go buy some Precision Metal snap caps. They are high quality aluminum snap caps that will last for years. You get 5 in a pack . Just to be safe.:cool:
 
I'm not cheap..Just want to know if it can be dry fired...Also I'm a machinist for aircraft engines so I work with high quality aluminum, magnesium, titanium etc..And from my knowledge they would all have a dent in them after being hit from a firing pin..Soooo that would lead me to think that after you fire the gun a few times with the same snap cap in it,eventually the pin would no longer be hitting the aluminum anymore..It would just be going into the path that it has hammered open.That means it would be like dry firing would it not...Now I'm new to the gun thing so I have never owned a snap cap nor a gun.So please correct me If I'm wrong .

I don't think the hole in the insert really means anything. It still provides some protection. Dry fire at will, you will not hurt your cz.
 
Go ahead and dry fore your Shadow. IPSC guys dry fire their guns (Shadow included) hundreds of thousands of times per year with no ill effect. If it was a rim fire that would be a different thing.

You can dry fire your gun. In IDPA you have to show clear then hammer down and holster after every stage. If this ruined the gun there would be thousands being sent back as we speak. My Ruger P345 on the other hand has a mag release safety and if you do not remove it dry firing will cause a click no bang scenerio.
