My DA556 is jamming, need help.

Norinco ammo is loaded pretty stout so I doubt that it's ammo related. I suspect a gas problem. Inspect the gas tube and key to make sure everything looks right.

I inspected the gas tube. I'm not an expert but I can't see any obvious problems.

I've tried 3 different magazines and the only thing I've shot out of this rifle is Norinco ammo.

Is the ammo since the stoppages from a different batch as the ammo that functioned normally? (sorry for crappy grammer, hope you catch what I'm layin down here). Before spending more money on parts you may not need, maybe try another brand or two just to confirm its NOT the ammo? And you mentioned you had given it a good clean but its worth taking a good look again and pass a brush through it to make sure it isn't fowled up. You may have already tried this, Im just trying to suggest ideas that are easy on the wallet. Hopefully its something as simple as that. Good luck and keep us posted. Cheers.

Your extraction issue has been common to a lot of DA rifles lately (see the canam thread). Adding the little donut doohickey under the extractor will cure this - will bet you two dollars :)
Worked for me.

Check the inside of your gas tube. It could be partially clogged up and in combination with lacquered ammo that tends to stick in the chamber, the bolt may not be getting enough pressure to reliably eject. The least, I would purge the gas tube with gun cleaner and then compressed air.

I've never fired lacquered ammo in this gun but I will get some compressed air and try to clean out the gas tube.

Not a lot of success today. I cleaned the rifle including the gas tube and recoil spring on top of the extractor upgrade kit I installed but I still had several FTE. I guess the next step is to try a different brand of ammo. Not sure what else to do.

I did take several pictures of some of the rounds that had to be manually extracted. Not much to see but here you go.

Here's a photo of some of the jammed up cartridges that the bolt tries to load.

Take a brush and SCRUB the crap out of the shoulder/neck area of the chamber. Not the body section of the chamber

Your fired brass has a slight 'ring' (that I have seen from brass on other DA556's) at the transition between the shoulder and the neck that developed this same problem.

I'm not going to say that will cure the problem, but I have a suspicion that you are getting carbon build-up in that area. (some of your cases seem to have some carbon caked on the necks). Try that first.

Pretty much all Norinco AR15's are way over-gassed, and Norinco ammo is pretty hot. Try other (read North American) ammo and see if it does the same thing.

Next test:

-Load single rounds in your magazines (this eliminates the next round slamming into the back of the fired case)
-Fire until you have a case that doesn't extract from the chamber
-How difficult is it to remove that case from the chamber?

I read your thread, try this as a test to isolated the problem.
You have another AR I hear, which is working fine I presume. If it's compatible profile, take this problematic one's upper receiver only (basically empty receiver and barrel) and stick it on the other AR (complete lower and BCG) and test it. Use as much of the other AR as possible.
If exact same problem still occurs you will be quite certain it's either you barrel&chamber or the receiver.
Any unusual wear marks inside the receiver?
