So i have a question for you ladies and gentlemen. It is my fathers bday this weekend and i want to buy him a firearm. I have never been hunting with my father cuz he was always working out of town every fall my whole life. This year he is not. I am tossed up between a weatherby vanguard, remington sps, Savage FCNS/GCNS. I am getting it in .270 win. What is the best value for my money

Holy sheet...talk about last minute. Get the Savage. Failing that, get whichever SIR/Cabelas has in stock.

With it being so late... what ever they got I guess. I don't mind the synthetic stock on my Savage but given the opportunity I would change it.
So if you can get one in hard wood, I'm not sure you can any more, then go for it. Aren't all the Savages laminates or synthetics now adays?

Buy one local (Winnipeg) that way if you have any issues, you can deal with them personally. Weatherby Vanguard, Savage, Howa (same as Wtby) or Remington, is my preference in order.
And if you buy a scope and rings from SIR (Cabela's), don't let them mount it for you, take it to a reputable gunsmith. Long story...

well thanks for all of the replies. I was at wholesale and Cabelas with my dad and got him to try some of the rifles this morning "A new rifle for myself" i told him. He really liked the Savage GCNS out of all of them he held so i went back this afternoon and bought it so i am sure he will be happy when he gets it. It is actually quite a nice rifle for the money i was kinda surprised.
I took a friend of mine to a gun shop and he ended up buying a stainless Savage in 223 for hunting coyote; I was really impressed with it. His uncle was impressed enough not to say a bad thing about it; he is a Sako fan, single, and has no major expenses, and cannot understand why someone would buy a Savage
